Barcelona is a city known for its art, architecture and sunshine. The capital of Catalonia is a Mediterranean city with Roman remains, medieval quarters and the most beautiful examples of 20th century Modernism.  Castelldefels, where the school is located, has more than five kilometres worth of fine beaches and is only a few kilometres away from Barcelona and its international airport.

The British School of Barcelona seeks to appoint an inspirational Head of Music for September 2018. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the teaching department within the secondary school and to drive the further development of our rapidly expanding extra-curricular instrumental provision. The successful candidate will be an inspirational and dedicated instrumentalist, require excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and possess a proven track record of outstanding teaching.

This is an opportunity to lead an expanding department and really shape the further development of music throughout the school. The post will suit a high-calibre graduate, with the enthusiasm, energy and commitment to really support, stretch and encourage their pupils, and the drive and dynamism to lead others.

Academically, the department offers GCSE and A level qualifications. Previous experience of teaching these would be an advantage. The successful applicant would also be expected to lead on all aspects of extra-curricular music, including the management of instrumental classes and public performances.

Please note that, dependent on the nature of the applications, this position could be extended to that of Director of Learning Arts, leading a faculty which includes Music, Art and Drama.
