Beckfoot Thornton is in an extremely exciting period on its journey to becoming a truly great school having just joined the highly successful Beckfoot Multi Academy Trust. It is a popular 11 to 18 school with approximately 1500 students on roll, including a very active Sixth Form of approximately 175 students. The school is fully inclusive and is set in the outskirts of the city of Bradford. As the successful candidate you will be joining Beckfoot Thornton at an exciting time of rapid change and refocusing of the school to ensure good or better progress is made by ALL of our young people.

The role

We are looking to appoint an innovative, forward looking Head of Music to lead our team of dedicated Music teachers teaching Music across all ages and ability ranges. You will support the team in delivering good and outstanding lessons to engage and motivate all our students. You will have high expectations of student behaviour whilst maintaining productive and respectful relationships and you must have the drive to continue and develop the extensive music extra-curricular programme which is beacon of the school. Prospective candidates should be able to demonstrate a high level of subject knowledge including a good understanding of music pedagogy, have experience in teaching music at KS3 and KS4, be highly proficient in piano, and have good skills on the ukulele guitar. We currently deliver the AQA GCSE specification and so there is a large emphasis on pupils performing and composing music which is celebrated regularly across the school. You will have a proven track record in delivering positive results and be looking to further develop your career in a school that actively supports and encourages staff development through CPD and training.You will work well under pressure and be a confident communicator and team player. 

The successful candidate will be provided with personalised professional development from the Beckfoot Teaching School.  This includes subject specific development, leadership development and coaching programmes.  This is in addition to the high quality Faculty and Whole school professional development provided to all staff.

2. Write a letter of application of no more than two sides of A4, font no smaller than 11. In your letter please identify how your experience and personal qualities meet the requirements for the post and use this as an opportunity to identify your areas of specific strength in the role.

3. Applications must be emailed to vacancies@beckfootthornton.org by no later than Monday 20th November at 9.00am. Interviews will take place during the latter part of week commencing 20th November 2017
