Mulberry Stepney Green Maths, Computing and Science College is first and foremost a 'learning school', vibrant, global in perspective, innovative in its teaching and learning. The school is focused on the development of the whole child and the continuous professional development of all our staff.

Mulberry Stepney Green Maths, Computing and Science College has now become a 11-19 mixed comprehensive school situated in Stepney Green, Tower Hamlets. Mulberry Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a mixed comprehensive school and one of the top schools in the Borough. We are heavily over-subscribed with long waiting lists.

The majority of families are from Bangladesh and therefore most of the students are members of the Muslim faith. We have a small but increasing number of students from other communities. The school is located in the East End of London, close to Canary Wharf and docklands, in an area of social and economic disadvantage but also exciting new opportunities. It is close to residential riverside developments and no more than a mile from the City of London.

Values and vision

The vision for the school is for all individuals to enjoy learning, make progress and achieve. We aspire to become creative, confident people who live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives. The school is recognised by Ofsted as a 'Good' School. We treat children as individuals and we are strongly committed to equality of opportunity.

We introduced girls into Year 7, from September 2020. This will see the school develop into an outstanding co-educational learning institution. The school has created a state-of-the-art learning environment by adding new buildings and refurbishment of the existing. There are over 800 computers throughout the school which demonstrates the role IT plays in our learning and the world of work.

Standards of achievement at the school have steadily improved over time. At Key Stage 3 results have risen in all the core subjects and there is a rising trend in Key Stage 4. The school has been a Specialist School in Mathematics and Computing since September 2005. Standards within mathematics are outstanding, with some of our students studying A’ level at the age of 15 years. In 2021, our KS3 and KS4 attainment was above national standards.

Our sporting accomplishments are outstanding, our parents are extremely supportive and our staffs are committed to improving their practice. The Governing Body is fully supportive and keen to see Mulberry Stepney Green realise its potential as a centre of excellence for learning and achievement.

The school benefits from a variety of funding including Excellence in Cities, National Grid for Learning, Behaviour Improvement Plan and is part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.

The curriculum structure is currently a two-year Key Stage 3 (Years 7 & 8) and a three-year Key Stage 4 (Years 9, 10 & 11). This enables us to offer a broad curriculum with two option subjects in each year of Key Stage 4, alongside the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, PE, History/Geography, Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Studies.

Our 6th is very successful and are almost full to capacity. We have built on our success at KS4 and results are good at KS5. The vast majority of our students go on to University each year, many to the most competitive courses and universities. We have also proved very successful at placing students on post-18 apprenticeships.

Ofsted report

“Students in the sixth form have very positive attitudes to their studies and confidence in their ability to succeed. Teachers have an excellent awareness of examination requirements so that students have a very good understanding of what they need to do to be successful. Teachers are very conscientious and highly committed.”
