Head of Outdoor Adventures

We are currently recruiting for a creative, inspiring and ambitious individual with a passion for the outdoors to head-up the Millfield School Outdoor Adventures Programme.
Outdoor Adventures is a fundamental programme within the school, supporting all students across all years. The programme provides a breadth and depth of opportunities to challenge students in their development. The programme is facilitated from the school but provides access to facilities and locations all over the UK, Europe and the World to provide activities in adventurous sports.
We want the successful candidate to take stock of the current programme and develop a strategy that can enable Millfield School to have one of the world’s leading Outdoor Adventure programmes in the independent school sector. The Head of Outdoor Adventures role is an exciting role for someone with extensive experience of working within the Outdoor Adventures industry, who is a change agent, and who is willing to take on a new challenge with the freedom to explore and experiment. You will be an excellent communicator, team player and an inspirational influence on young people and staff in the delivery of the programme.
As the Head of Outdoor Adventures, you will directly line manage the Outdoor Adventure Instructor and direct the work of approx. fifteen members of teaching staff with an outdoor responsibility. You will also recruit specialised freelance instructors to deliver outstanding experiences for young people.
This is a full-time role, and due to the nature of the position there will be a requirement for weekend and evening work and therefore flexibility is essential. In return, you will receive a competitive salary (Up to £40,000 depending on experience and abilities) and 10 weeks holiday per annum.
Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1,300 students at the senior school (year 9 to U6), with a 3:1 ratio of boarding to day. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries.
Set in over 100 acres of grounds, Millfield’s size brings great opportunity and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf and cricket and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high quality boarding accommodation.
