The Scots College is one of the oldest and most reputable boys’ schools in Australia.  Scots is a non-selective Presbyterian GPS boys’ school for day and boarding students. We draw students from across Sydney, New South Wales and many different nations from around the world.

The College defends the honourable traditions, adventures and learning of boys. Our vision is focused on the education, pastoral care, nurture and development of fine Scots boys who are inspired to learn, lead and serve as they strive for excellence together.

Located in the pristine Kangaroo Valley of NSW, 2 hours southwest of Sydney, our Glengarry Campus focusses on Experiential Learning for Year 9 boys who live on-site for 6 months. We provide a unique learning environment in which boys discover the tools they need to grow into fine young men.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Outdoor professional to lead and manage our exceptional Outdoor Education program and team of Outdoor Educators. The role has a strong focus on risk management and operational safety and is responsible for continually developing engaging, sequential, challenging and intentional experiential learning.  As part of the Campus leadership team you will also provide mentoring and foster a sense of community through involvement in residential and other community activities. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Educator who is looking to be part of an innovative and exciting facility that is looking to make the most of the educational and transformational opportunities that an extended stay program provides.

Essential selection criteria:

Cert IV, Diploma or Degree Qualification in Outdoor Education with recognised competencies in at least 2 of the following areas: bushwalking, camp craft, navigation, mountain biking, canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling or caving.

  • Highly experienced with Outdoor Education / Experiential Learning philosophies & programs
  • Demonstrated commitment to organisational best practice & effectively & inspiringly leading teams
  • Compassion for adolescents and an awareness of duty of care responsibilities in a boarding context

All candidates must demonstrate positive support for our Christian values and for being a part of the Presbyterian GPS (Greater Public Schools) community. It is a requirement for all employees of the College to have a valid working with children clearance or application number.

This is initially a 3-year fixed-term position ideally with a start date in January 2020 however can be flexible if required.

The Scots College is an independent, all-through school for boys, catering to students in Kindergarten to Year 12. As one of the top private boys’ schools in Sydney, Scots is divided into a number of sub-campuses that each cater to specific needs of its students.

The Glengarry Campus is home to the Scots College two-term residential experience located in the Kangaroo Valley, two hours south of Sydney. This campus is specifically for students in Year 9 and provides young men with a ‘rite of passage’ into manhood through a number of unique activities..

The Scots College Gelengarry Campus is a unique campus structured for a specialised six-month outdoor education program tailored to boys’ rapid social, mental and physical development. Glengarry has state of the art outdoor and recreational education facilities as well as living quarters for the students and staff. Students participate in activities such as hiking, canoeing and mountain bike riding. Students are not given access to mobiles, game consoles and television throughout their Glengarry experience.

Curriculum

Glengarry’s learning environment provides the highest level of Outdoor Industry Recreation Council (ORIC) accreditation. At this campus, students are subject to ‘life-learning’ in conjunction with their engaging academic curriculum in an outdoor context. The ultimate, concluding experience at the Glengarry campus is the ‘Long Journey Home’ - a hike of over 200km.
