Job Specification

The position will support the Director of Sport in delivering the curriculum, primarily onsite and at local sports fields. The successful candidate will have an awareness of SEN and have a creative, adaptable approach to meet all needs. They will be committed to the development of pupils both physically and emotionally.

Qualifications-
A bachelor’s degree at a 2.2 or higher in PE or a related discipline

Qualified teacher status through a PGCE, GTP or other international equivalent 

Skills/competencies-

-Experience of teaching and motivating young people aged 8-16 years

-A passion for PE.

-Experience of producing high quality and inspiring schemes of learning and teaching materials

-Evidence of continually improving outcomes for pupils

-IT literate with a willingness to develop skills as the use of technology changes; must be competent in the use of ICT for teaching and learning purposes, and for recording and monitoring use.

-Effective and efficient communication skills, both verbal and written 

-Good organisational skills

-Able to work effectively with pupils, parents, outside agencies and colleagues 

It is preferable that she/he will have experience teaching GCSE PE or BTEC 

Knowledge-

Knowledge GCSE PE content and experience teaching theoretical aspects of PE

Excellent working knowledge of how to meet the needs of pupils with a range of SEN

Previous experience-

Teaching KS2-4 PE

At least one year teaching experience

Experience of being a Form Tutor

Personal qualities-

Flexibility

Self-motivation

Time management

Ability to think on feet

Good team worker and team leader

PE  Teacher Job Description

Teaching and Learning

To teach PE within the age range 9-16

To contribute to the design of programmes of study and  SOW planning

To ensure that all pupils are making progress in PE

To contribute to the extra-curricular and Enrichment activities of the school

To assist in the planning and running of PE activities outside of the curriculum including sports day, swimming gala and fixtures with other schools

Administrative tasks: ie bookings, equipment maintenance and orders.

To communicate regularly with parents

To liaise with the Occupational Therapist when necessary

To ensure that the PE classroom and notice boards presents a stimulating environment through the display of pupil’s work and other exemplar materials

To read all Pupil Profiles to understand the needs of each individual

To fulfill the role of form tutor with a responsibility for the pastoral care of your form

As a possible Skills for Learning Mentor to deliver social and communication lessons to small groups, with the assistance of a Speech and Language Therapist

To undertake formal and dynamic risk assessments and to oversee the safety of all pupils when being taught or travelling to venues and to make pupils themselves aware of safety

To establish and maintain positive working relationships with other SEN schools such a ss Canbury and Thames Christian College

Communicating achievements and results in gathering, end of term events, website and newsletter

To utilise Learning Support Assistants in your lessons.

to implement all relevant aspects of school policies

Teach GCSE / Btec 

Additional Responsibilities

To prepare schemes of work, the departmental handbook and any other necessary documentation

To organise the department's contribution to the Open Days

To represent the department in heads of department meetings and the dissemination of appropriate information to members of the department

To organise the arrangement of teaching groups in consultation with the department and to liaise with the assistant head in all matters concerning the timetable

To assist the head in the appointment of new staff to the department

To organise the induction and supervision of newly qualified teachers, any teachers new to the school and those joining the school on a temporary basis and to review their work within the department. 

To develop all members of the department by supporting and delegating as appropriate

To manage departmental budget

To check equipment, resources and departmental areas and update as necessary. 

To organise Sports Days, House Matches and any other appropriate event(s)

To oversee arrangements for all departmental events and to check these against the school calendar and, wherever possible, their entry in the provisional calendar for the next term

Burlington House School was established in 1998 as a pioneering school to allow children with Dyslexia the opportunity to access an academic education. Focussing on pupil personal development Burlington House School is at the forefront of bespoke education for not only SpLD but also any child who struggles in a traditional classroom.
