Founded in 1958, Wilmington Grammar School for Girls has been helping girls to secure outstanding academic results and providing a  well-rounded experience for over half a century. The school encourages a  happy and harmonious community which respects the individual and  celebrates the rich diversity of backgrounds and heritage of students  and staff. We are a growing school with over 920 students on roll, but  remain sufficiently small to recognise individual talents and ensure  everyone is challenged and supported to reach their goals.

This is a school that has always been  willing to reinvent itself, to look for new opportunities and to take on  new challenges.  We encourage each of our students to do likewise.  We  aim to nurture a passion for learning and a desire to try new things and  set ambitious goals. We have a strong emphasis on skill development and  encourage our students to adopt the’ Wilmington Mindset’, where  resilience and the impetus to innovate, trial new initiatives, grow in  confidence, independence and resilience is applauded. Respectful  relationships are central to our philosophy and there is a strong belief  that students learn best when they are happy, motivated and co-partners  in their own learning. Our younger students have had the opportunity to  immerse themselves in both Mandarin and an Enterprise curriculum.  The  triage of Mandarin, Enterprise and Mindset will provide an excellent  base for our students when they eventually move on to work places that  we can possibly only imagine.  To gain a picture of what this life looks  like, please follow us on Twitter and read the Head Teacher’s blog here.

From Year 7 to Year 11, students are taught  in a single sex environment. In sixth form however, we offer an  unparalleled range of curricular opportunities through our partnership  with Wilmington Grammar School for Boys. The same ethos of ambitious  aspirations pervades our post 16 offer and the opportunity to further  stimulate the students’ intellectual curiosity alongside the opportunity  to further develop their personal and social skills is a winning  formula. WG6 has its own website at www.wg6.co.uk.  With the variety of different pathways on offer, we are confident that  this gives a unique opportunity to support students in preparation for  their next step, be that university or the world of work.

At Wilmington Grammar School for Girls, we recognise the part that is  played by all stakeholders and work closely with parents to ensure our  students emerge as confident, self-reliant, responsible and caring  citizens. We encourage you to attend one of our Open Days/ Evenings so  you can meet our students and staff first hand and judge for yourself.

We very much look forward to welcoming you.
