Job overview

There has never been a more exciting time to lead Moulsford Pre-Prep. We have recently gained full planning permission to create a purpose-built, standalone Pre-Prep facility that will provide the perfect venue to give our boys an outstanding education. You will manage the transition to this state-of-the-art complex, providing a real input into the way we develop our new premises.

Enjoying an excellent working environment in a 30-acre site on the banks of the Thames, you will ensure that we achieve exceptional results in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Overseeing the welfare and attainment of more than 60 boys, you will actively nurture the whole child – forging opportunities for every individual to shine and develop his own talents. We set the highest academic expectations for our pupils, and you will create a culture of positive reinforcement to make certain that goals are realised and targets exceeded.

Equally importantly, you will support our comprehensive extracurricular programme, spanning sport, music, art, drama and river-based activities, and be a positive and persuasive ambassador for the school.

You should be a seasoned academic leader with a proven record of inspiring colleagues and pupils in a similar environment. At the heart of the Senior Management Team, you will take the decisions that give our boys the best possible start in life and will profoundly shape the way we think and work.

In return, you can expect a highly competitive salary and a comprehensive range of benefits, including our pension scheme, private medical insurance, gym membership, fee concessions and significant investment in your professional development.

If you can build something unique, please visit www.moulsford.com/information/career-opportunities for further information and to apply.

Closing date: Tuesday, 24th September 2019.

Moulsford is a thriving, independent day and boarding school of 380 pupils near Wallingford in South Oxfordshire, set in tranquil and picturesque grounds on the banks of the River Thames.

From September 2023, Moulsford Pre-Prep (Pre-School to Year 2) will become co-educational, giving girls of pre-prep age the opportunity to benefit from a Moulsford experience. The Prep School (Years 3 - 8) will continue to deliver an outstanding all-boys education.

A Moulsford education is directly relevant for life in the 21st century, instilling in the children a blend of academic rigour and life  skills which gives them the platform and confidence to thrive at their  senior schools, universities, the workplace, and personal lives.

Rated as ‘Excellent’ in all categories in its recent March 2022 ISI inspection, Moulsford offers an outstanding education with a focus on  providing exceptional pastoral care.  Kindness, compassion and community are at the centre of all that we do.

Great emphasis is also placed on the extra-curricular side of School life, with the range of activities for boys having been significantly enhanced from September 2017; Sport, Music, Art, Drama and river-based activities play a prominent role in the boys’ timetable. Sport at Moulsford is particularly strong and candidates must be “in-tune” with the School’s extra-curricular ethos.

There are currently 380 boys at the School. Moulsford is predominantly a day school, but has a boarding house for up to 35 boys; mainly in Years 6, 7 and 8. The School week runs from Monday to Friday, and there are also a number of sports fixtures which take place on Saturdays. There is neither Saturday School nor boarding on Friday night or at the weekend.

From Moulsford, the boys go on to a wide variety of senior schools via Common Entrance or Scholarship at 13+. These include: Abingdon, Radley, Marlborough, Wellington, Magdalen College School (Oxford), Eton, St Edward’s (Oxford), Pangbourne, Harrow, Shiplake, and The Oratory.

The Headmaster is Ben Beardmore-Gray who took up post in September 2014. Ben was previously Headmaster of Mowden Hall (Northumberland), Deputy Head of Farleigh (Hampshire), and started his teaching career at Ludgrove (Berkshire).
