Key Responsibilities:

  • Play a leading role in the school improvement and school self-evaluation planning process.
  • Lead the development and review of all aspects of the curriculum including planning, recording and reporting, assessment for learning and the development of a creative and appropriate curriculum for all pupils
  • Promote a culture of inclusion within the school community where all views are valued and taken into account.
  • Ensure the systematic teaching of basic skills and recording of impact is consistently high across the school.
  • Develop and review systems to ensure robust evaluation of school performance, progress data and actions to secure improvements comparable to appropriate national styandards
  • Ensure through leading by example the active involvement of pupils and staff in their own learning
  • Support the development of collaborative approaches to learning within  the school and beyond
  • Organise and support the induction of staff new to the school and those being trained within the school
  • Support the Headteacher in reporting the school's performance to its community and partners
  • Promote and protect the health and safety welfare of pupils and staff
  • Promote the positive involvement of parents/carers in school life
  • Organise and conduct meetings where appropriate with parents and carers to ensure positive outcomes for all parties
  • Strengthen partnership and community working
  • Undertake any reasonable request made by the Headteacher
  • Coordinate and prepare the teaching timetables, looking for the best fit with the overall school organisation and using the required digital platform
  • Offer support to and reinforcement of the Discipline and Behaviour Policy throughout the Primary School
  • Ensure that the Primary School is appropriately resourced and that school facilities are used efficiently and effectively
  • Convene and chair meetings on a regular basis with teams, transmitting potential problems and suggestings emanating from that meeting to the management team
  • Promote and meet with student representatives to address any concrens and suggestions made
  • Coordinate with the Director of Admissions entrance exams for potential new students, evaluate the results and jointly decide the admission or rejection of any candidate

Person Specification

  • Suitably Qualified and experienced for the position with Qualified Teacher Status
  • Track record of self motivated professional development, with focus on learning
  • Track record of effective management with all stakeholders, including parents and the wider community
  • Knowledge of UK National Curriculum requirements
  • Highly effective team leader with the proven ability able to motiviate and engage all staff to get better
  • Be an excellent role model, exemplifying a high standard of teaching and promoting high expectations for all members of the school community
  • Recent experience in a Primary School which follows the UK National Curriculum
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, learning and achievement of every student
  • Good oral and written communications skills in Spanish and English
  • Commitment to continuned personal and professional development
  • Evidence of using a solution focussed approach to adapt positively to change
  • Good time-management and personal organisation skills
  • Commitment to be involved in the school community and have a close relationship with parents body

About Newton College

Newton College is an independent, co-educational international school located in Alicante, Spain. First established in 1991, the school offers a bilingual Spanish/English curriculum for its students, supported by an extensive range of modern teaching and recreational facilities. This includes numerous sports fields and arenas, modern classrooms and IT equipment, modern creative and performing arts areas, science labs, a specialist psychomotor classroom, all housed within modern school buildings. The curriculum at the school is varied and diverse. It primarily follows the British National Curriculum, particularly in its early years, with compulsory Spanish-language classes being introduced towards the end of nursery.

The primary stage introduces Valencian, as well as additional Spanish social studies, although the British curriculum still makes up the bulk of the school’s subjects. The secondary stage introduces German-language studies, and follows the IB Middle Years Programme. Later, elements of the Spanish national curriculum are incorporated, with students ultimately studying for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, an internationally-accredited pre-university qualification. The school offers an extended school day to pupils who prefer it, with a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities on offer, intended to both aid student’s studies and expand their personal development.
