Head of Psychology

The Role

The College requires a full-time Head of Psychology to oversee the leadership and management of this recently-formed department within the College.  This is an exciting time for our rapidly expanding, highly successful Sixth Form College, and we are looking for an inspiring and dynamic candidate, with a passion for psychology and criminology to join us.

Applications from Teachers in Schools and Sixth Form College sectors are welcome.  A full mentoring programme is organised to introduce all new staff to sixth form college systems and procedures and to support and encourage professional development.  We are looking for an exceptional candidate. We expect high performance from all our staff and are looking for an impressive individual to inspire College students.  Candidates should demonstrate their ability and suitability to both the role and the culture of the College.

The Department

This successful area of the College which includes Psychology and Criminology.  As a direct result of the growth in student numbers, the Social Sciences department was recently split into two separate departments for Psychology and Criminology (Behavioural Sciences) and Sociology and Health & Social Care (Social Sciences).

Our expectations are high and our students value the support that both departments offer to ensure they excel and meet their potential. This includes regular study support workshops, bookable 1:1s for personalised support, target setting and an intensive revision programme, as well as being focused on the development of exam skills and improving literacy.

The department hosts a range of extra-curricular activities including university guest speakers and museum and theatre visits.  As part of the Woking Way programme, the College offers the opportunity for wider learning through the short courses programme.  This has included “Ethics in Psychology:  the implications of research in shaping behaviour” where students gained an appreciation of ethical implications of psychology research and how this has affected or continues to affect wider society; as well as a short course to introduce  students to academic research to learn key skills relevant to many university degrees.

Application Information:

Salary:  Up to £45,521 per annum depending on experience, plus £1,081 fringe allowance.
