Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join a growing and increasingly successful Humanities Faculty delivering Religious Education to the young people of Catterick.

If you are an exceptional and inspirational Religious Education Teacher who would be able to support and add expertise to our team of teachers, then we would love to hear from you. We are looking for a person with drive and personal ambition who will inspire and enthuse our students and instil in them a love for the subject and a desire to learn. The role will require an individual who can demonstrate resilience and experience of delivering innovative teaching methods to achieve improved academic outcomes.

At Risedale Sports and Community College, the RE Department, as part of the Humanities Faculty, is committed to excellence in teaching. We pride ourselves on putting the students at the centre of all we do, from creating an engaging, positive, welcoming environment to exploring cutting edge pedagogy.

The KS3 RE curriculum takes inspiration from the NYCC SACRE and is designed to thematically introduce students to a broad range of religions and ideas.  Currently in year 7 we study Christianity, Islam and a variety of themes. Year 8 study Hinduism, Buddhism and Judaism. Year 9 study units on morality, anger and suffering (focusing on Buddhism) and crime and punishment. At KS4 students studying the subject at GCSE follow the AQA specification and the religions of Christianity and Buddhism plus the four themes of Crime and Punishment, Relationships and Families, Peace and Conflict, Human Rights and Social Justice. Those students studying Core RE follow the short course from AQA studying Christianity and the themes of Relationships and Families plus Peace and Conflict.

We are looking to appoint a forward thinking, innovative and creative specialist. The successful candidate will be open to new ideas and committed to the philosophy of the team. The profession requires resilience, hard work, adaptability and a sense of humour.

The college offers all employees bespoke training and support; a highly cohesive and supportive staff team; outstanding CPD including up to date individualised action research; the opportunity to develop skills and interest through extra-curricular clubs; access to an exclusive benefits package and a chance to join Risedale at a very important point in the school’s development.  The College also recognises the importance of striking a healthy work-life balance and is something it strives to achieve for all its employees.

Risedale is a small but growing school with a fantastic team of staff, a wonderful group of young people and a clear but determined agenda to make sure that every student is looked after, nurtured, challenged and ultimately leaves ready for an exciting and positive future. We are at an exciting point in our journey. Outcomes are rising, attendance is above the national recommendation and we are absolutely committed to no young person being left behind; the school is passionate about ensuring that the curriculum is bespoke for each child and that teachers provide a family through our tutor group system. As a result of our hard work and dedication, not a single fixed term or permanent exclusion occurred last academic year.
