Job overview

Derby Cathedral School opened in September 2018 with a Year 7 cohort of 174 students. With the enrolment of a  second year group in September 2019 the school needs to double its staffing complement. The school will increase annually by 180 pupils until its designated NOR of 1300 pupils is reached. Housed in temporary accommodation, beside the railway station, until Summer 2020, the school is currently working with contractors to deliver a new city centre, state of the art school in just over 18 months time. A Church of England free school, the first in the Derby Diocese, sees us as the inaugural secondary school within the Derby Diocesan Academy Trust.  The school accepts pupils of all faiths and none, however it is underpinned by clear Christian values and works collaboratively with Derby Cathedral in a number of areas. As a specialist maths and music school, we naturally offer additional opportunities in these areas. The school is well resourced having ample teaching facilities and new equipment in every faculty. A  positive IT partnership with a multinational company ensures a high quality provision of pcs, I-pads and laptops.

The successful candidate will lead an expanding department through to successful GCSE and A level outcomes as well as taking a lead on aspects of the SIAMS protocol. In addition the successful candidate will work collaboratively to develop and enhance our partnership links with Derby Cathedral, our wider family of schools and the local community.  The role will involve a significant teaching commitment and the usual leadership expectations of a Head of subject.
