Job overview

Dunstable, Bedfordshire – Flexible Working

Central Bedfordshire Council has made a commitment to invest in education and help all local children to fulfil their potential. We have made a commitment to invest in reshaping our educational landscape. To do this we are looking for a strategic collaborative leader who will act as our Head of School Improvement. You’ll play a pivotal role in working with schools to raise standards, improve school effectiveness and deliver excellent education

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious education professional who is eager to broaden their experience and grow their leadership skills and expertise. In a high-profile role, you will galvanise a growing team focussed upon fostering positive, collaborative relationships with schools and partners. We have a genuine desire to innovate and look at new approaches to help us in our mission to improve outcomes and raise attainment for all our children, with a particular focus upon diminishing the difference for our more vulnerable learners.

You’ll ensure we make the most of resources through a holistic school improvement and organisation strategy, take charge of a £23m budget and lead income generation activities. At the same time, you’ll act as the Council’s resident expert, advising on interventions in schools that are causing concern. Using data and intelligence about school performance, you’ll challenge low education results and establish a culture of continuous improvement.

A registered teacher with a school professional qualification, you’ll have experience in a similar role gained at a senior level in a school or local authority. With this background, you’ll be used to leading school improvement, strategic planning and performance delivery alongside school leadership staff, external partners and stakeholders. You will care passionately about improving outcomes for children and young people, have strong communication and stakeholder skills and understand how to work collaboratively with schools to drive improved performance. You will also have good political acumen and an understanding of Ofsted regulatory environments.

Central Bedfordshire truly is a great place to live and work. Join us, and you’ll enjoy attractive benefits plus the chance to develop and progress. We offer an excellent package that includes up to 35 days annual leave (plus the option to buy an additional 5 days), agile working, attractive pension, training, health and welfare support, staff discount scheme, childcare vouchers and more. Even better, you’ll join a great team that get real job satisfaction from helping children achieve and progress.

At Central Bedfordshire Council, we’re passionate about having a workforce that reflects our community. It’s why we’re committed to creating equal opportunities, so that we always embrace diversity.
