OBJECTIVES
Huili School Hangzhou is seeking experienced candidates to lead the science department across the school. The Head of Science will work with the Head of School to ensure high quality education and improved standards of learning, achievement and efficiency of science for all the pupils, based on the Wellington College philosophy and ethos. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the wider curriculum and administration needs of education and support pupil’s growth and development, encouraging pupils to be inspired, intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Head of Science should:
1. Secure excellent standards of teaching and learning in their department and raise standards of achievement in the school
2. Ensure the policies, practices and parental communications are established and maintained across the department, to support the learning of individual pupils.
3. Co-operate with those responsible for timetabling to ensure that staff resourcing is effectively managed within the department
4. Monitor subject specifications and schemes of work throughout the school and revise as appropriate, in conjunction with SLT.
5. Ensure that the assessment procedure is followed throughout the year, and oversee the standardisation of internal examinations, their moderation, setting, marking and necessary follow-up.
6. To organise and lead curriculum based trips and visits across the Key Stages
7. Manage departmental resources and budget
8. Ensure effective records of progress are kept for all pupils
9. Prepare reports for board meetings relating to overall teaching and learning progress
10. Arrange and lead departmental meetings, as well as attending any other meetings that are required by the SLT
11. Be responsible for staff development and appraisal cycle, in conjunction with SLT
12. Promote good working relationships within the department.
13. Manage the Health and Safety requirements within the department
14. Any other duties as required by the Executive Master and other SLT members. This job description may be amended from time to time in consultation with the role holder.
