The newly created Head of Secondary School role presents an exciting and significant opportunity to lead a team of talented teachers in the delivery of ‘Inspirational Student Experiences’ Years 7-12, within the context of excellence as outlined in our teaching and learning framework. The successful applicant will play a key role in shaping our future direction, ensuring Penrhos continues to offer students an exceptional, defining, and personalised learning experience.


Responsibilities related to this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Leadership: A track record of working productively and collaboratively as part of a leadership team to achieve strategic and shared goals
  • Teaching and Learning: Foster and develop academic excellence in the Secondary School through engagement with future-focused educational practices in relation to girls’ education for years 7 to 12
  • Strategic Planning: Assist the Principal with strategic planning and review of Penrhos College
  • Pastoral Care: Have overall responsibility for the welfare and discipline of students in the Secondary School
  • Staff: Oversee the College’s Secondary School staff welfare management and performance
  • Administration: Manage Secondary School budgets and have oversight of the annual Secondary School Calendar


Selections Criteria:

  • A minimum four-year recognised teaching qualification including a bachelor’s degree and Post-Graduate Teaching Diploma / University Qualification or a Bachelor of Education
  • A minimum of 3 years full time teaching experience in a recognised educational institution
  • 5 years of leadership in education
  • Current National Police Clearance and a Working with Children card (WWC).
  • Current TRBWA Membership
  • Commitment to providing students with a safe, supportive and respectful environment.
  • Commitment to the College’s Core Shared values of Respect, Integrity, Empathy, Knowledge, Growth and Synergy.


The following criteria must be addressed with evidence in the Selection Criteria document:

  1. Strong understanding of the needs of students in the secondary years of schooling
  2. Demonstrated capacity to lead the Secondary School team to achieve excellence in the delivery of the School’s curriculum
  3. Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative and organisational skills, and the ability to plan, set priorities, and make sound judgments based on thoughtful evaluation to meet the objectives of the School
  4. Outstanding community-based leadership and team-building skills, including the capacity to engage and inspire
  5. Ability to demonstrate initiative, drive, and a strong sense of professionalism
  6. Willingness to uphold and commit to the College’s Care Shared values

Penrhos College is a Uniting Church day and boarding school for girls, Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, located in Como, Perth, Western Australia.

The college opened in 1951 and was known as St Anne’s School, a private girls’ school, and was owned and run by Miss Jill Hargrave.

Facilities

There is a multi-purpose activity area in the Early Learning Centre and the upper floor of the ELC links to the junior school oval. Facilities include a sports centre, climbing wall, swimming pool, tennis, basketball and netball courts.

Curriculum

Three to seven year-olds are enrolled into classes from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 1. 

The Junior School curriculum for girls in Years 2 to 6 aims to build a solid base in literacy and numeracy, as well as incorporating information technology to develop sound research and analytical skills. Girls learn Italian throughout Junior School as well as taking part in arts, drama and music.

The senior curriculum which meets Standards Authority requirements whilst ensuring there is academic challenge, balance and variety. 

Co-curricular activities are divided in to mind, heart, body and spirit. Chess club and debating, drama and dance, sports and community service. Parents are encouraged to be part of school life and attend chapel services, assemblies and inter-house carnivals.

Penrhos College's ethos is divided into its purpose, core shared values and educational philosophy. The school's purpose is ‘To inspire girls to become extraordinary women.’ Its values include respect integrity and empathy. The college motto is ‘Strive for the Highest.’
