Head of Sixth Form (with Science responsibility)

Who we are looking for 

We are a forward thinking Autism Specific Specialist Free School seeking a suitably qualified Head of Sixth Form with Science responsibility to work across the Secondary Department within the school with experience of teaching KS3 and KS4 students to GCSE level.  Experience or knowledge of the Science Curriculum is essential. 

We were recently inspected in November 2017. The School was rated as Good. 

Supported by the National Autistic Society Academies Trust, we cater for up to 60 young people aged 4-19 with Autism and Asperger Syndrome. As a part of the NAS Academies Trust, we are developing significant professional and working partnerships with the already established Independent NAS schools drawing on knowledge and expertise through professional working relationships to ensure best practise is shared. 

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the school’s post 16 curriculum offer where you will be working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Teaching Staff and Learning Mentors to lead a group of eight post 16 pupils with a diagnosis of Autism to help them achieve their life long goals. 

You will also be required to teach KS3 & KS4 Science and to support and lead on aspects of whole School Science.  

We aim to deliver the highest level of education and experiences to ensure the best life chances become a sustainable reality for every young person (on an individual needs led basis). Together, we will create a safe, positive and structured environment in which every young person is respected and encouraged to achieve independence (through academic, employment and personal skills development).  

To be considered for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and experience of post 16 education and a desire for improving pupil outcomes (including those of high aspiration and vision), as well as some specialist ASD knowledge (through experience and/or practice). The right candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning and the skills to engage, inspire and motivate our students to support the school in raising achievement in Science in KS3 and KS4. You will also offer a flexible approach to your role and be confident in delivering your subject to a small group and across various levels of academic ability.
