The Governors of this Church of England academy are seeking to appoint a Head of Spiritual & Social Education who believes in nurturing children as individual characters, acquiring values which equip pupils to work with others in contributing to something larger than themselves.
The post is to lead the subject of Spiritual & Social Education, which is an integration of RE, PSHE and Citizenship, for in our church school we believe that decisions and considerations can have a spiritual dimension. The post holder will be responsible for planning and delivering high quality lessons and engaging pupils with activities that challenge and excite, teaching across KS2 and KS3, and across all ability ranges. The successful candidate will demonstrate consistently high standards of teaching and excellent classroom management, drawing on the great behaviour of our pupils. Additionally, the new Head of SSE’s approach will allow pupils to flourish by sharing with them a love for the subject matter, supporting them in responding to ‘deep questions’, and an inert desire to learn. Our pupils are aged 9-13 (Year 5 to Year 8), and we are a middle school that is deemed secondary. That means our pupils follow a curriculum which is a middle-way towards that of a secondary school, moving from room to room and making the most of specialist provision.
