Join our enthusiastic and child focused team at The Lyceum School, located in the heart of The City of London. We seek to appoint a creative and inspirational Head of STEAM and Computing to play a leading role in the development and teaching of STEAM and Computing within the school. This will be a major part in the school’s direction of travel and is a new and exciting role and plans are in place for a newly created innovative space. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the teaching and development of STEAM and Computing throughout KS1 and KS2.

 

The Lyceum School

The Lyceum School is an independent prep school for just over 120 boys and girls aged 4 to 11. Founded in 1997, the school is well known for its equal emphasis on the arts and academics. We teach a topic-based curriculum which links many subjects and allows our teachers to plan creative schemes of work that draw on their own knowledge and passions. We have specialist teachers for Music, PE, Spanish and Latin. The Lyceum is embarking on an exciting new adventure and provides rigorous pastoral care that places pupils' well-being at the heart of all we do.

The Lyceum is part of a larger family of nursery, prep and senior schools called Dukes Education. Job Description:

Professional Conduct

You must have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of our school and maintain high standards in your own attendance and punctuality.

You must have an understanding of, and always act within, the statutory frameworks which set out your professional duties and responsibilities.

At The Lyceum School, we expect each other to uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school, by: treating pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position of having regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being, in accordance with statutory provisions of showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others, of not undermining fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, of ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways which exploit pupils’ vulnerability or might lead them to break the law.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

• To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people regarding safeguarding procedures

• To maintain good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the school premises and when they are engaged in activities elsewhere

• To support in the provision of high-quality care and education for the children in the school; to fulfil legal and statutory requirements

• To implement all school policies and procedures, and report to the appropriate teacher any incidents of disruptive or unacceptable behaviour of pupils that may not be known to the main teaching staff

• To comply with all school policies - particularly those on Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Acceptable Use, Confidentiality and Data Protection

 

Professional Responsibilities

•        To fully prepare for and undertake the teaching of STEAM and Computing across the ability and age range at KS2 and some KS1

•        To be accountable for standards of teaching and learning in STEAM and Computing

•        To devise and regularly review a STEAM and Computing development plan from which schemes of work and lessons are produced

•        To promote the value of STEAM and Computing to all pupils by having clear expectations of all requirements

•        To plan and prepare suitable schemes of work; assess and review course content and teaching methods

•        To evaluate, monitor, and set targets for the overall progress of STEAM and Computing

•        To assess, mark, record and report on the development, progress, and attainment of pupils.

•        Establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with parents

•        Promote good behaviour and a positive ethos within all lessons

•        Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils

•        Enable pupils to explore topics for themselves and foster an environment for pupils to solve problems

•        Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge

•        To be familiar with a range of resources suitable for individual or group settings, and use them to motivate pupils within their learning

•        To ensure the Computing room is a safe environment for children, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high and safety procedures are implemented

•        To use the classroom to create an effective and stimulating environment for the teaching and learning of Computing

•        Manage the budget associated with STEAM and Computing


General Responsibilities

•        To liaise with appropriate members of the pastoral team should you have concerns of pupil wellbeing, safety, or behaviour, and follow school record keeping and procedures

•        To record pastoral concerns as directed

•        To attend Key Stage meetings when requested

•        To contribute to staff meetings, Open Days and other such functions as required in line with school protocols

•        To comply with school supervision rotas as appropriate

• To set a good example in terms of spoken English, attendance and punctuality

• To ensure that you are dressed appropriately, in line with the staff dress code

• To undertake such training as may be reasonably required by the school

• To fulfil professional responsibilities by making a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school

·      To undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Headmaster
