Role:

  • To provide direction, instructions and guidance to all team members in line with SCS expectations and targets.
  • To be an exceptionally strong ambassador for the year group.
  • To be the voice on behalf of the children, parents and teachers of the year group in the primary leadership team.

General Responsibilities:

  • To liaise with appropriate specialist teachers and teams within the school as well as outside agencies.
  • To follow appropriate line structures and implement relevant policies.
  • To support and drive local values, traditions and initiatives. (UAE Identity)
  • To create a productive aesthetically pleasing learning environment (Year Group).
  • To support team members with pastoral needs in the year group.
  • To complete and oversee all trips undertaken by the Year Group.
  • To write a measurable and relevant action plan.
  • To raise the standards of learning and teaching for the specific year group.
  • To complete all monitoring and evaluating requirements as agreed upon by the Primary Leadership Team.


Academic Progress:

  • To monitor the academic progress of the year group in order to secure and sustain effective learning, with particular reference to the proportion of students and groups of students making appropriate levels of progress.
  • To use assessment data such as CATs, SATs, GL Progress Tests, internal data, to inform an analysis of individual student progress and collective progress across each class group and the year group as a whole.
  • To liaise with key staff, including the SENCO, regarding all groups of students’ achievement in the year group. Particularly those with special education needs and/or those who are gifted and talented.
  • To report to the line manager on the progress of the year group and individuals, with particular reference to the proportion of students making better than expected progress.


Leadership and Management:

  • To act as a role model for teachers by demonstrating high quality pastoral care and academic monitoring of students, continuous professional development and professional presence in the year team.
  • To lead and manage a team of teachers and maintain regular formal and informal contact with tutors.
  • To ensure all teachers understand, and are actively implementing the key aspects of the school’s policies including those for behaviour, attendance, uniform and safeguarding.
  • To set the agenda for year group meetings which should include a development item.
  • To initiate and respond to communications with parents ensuring that they are kept fully informed and involved in the progress of their children.
  • To contribute to the organisation of any parent information evenings by encouraging and monitoring parent attendance to such events.
  • To refer situations to a member of the pastoral team when appropriate.
  • To contribute to the management of key school events.
  • To deliver messages from the Primary Leadership meetings in a timely, positive manner, so outcomes are clear for all staff members.
  • To work alongside curriculum leaders, learning and teaching team to ensure high quality learning and teaching is consistent.
