Job overview

The core purpose of this Head of Year 7 post is to contribute to the continuing development of Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College. Leading the areas of Transition from Year 6 into Year 7, Achievement and Behaviour are integral to this role. Our three key priorities are to develop Quality First Teaching, Thirst for Learning and Progress & Achievement for All. This role will entail a teaching timetable and the ability to lead and motivate staff and students.

Heads of Year are responsible for the pastoral care and academic progress of their year group. The key academic responsibility of the Head of Year 7 is to monitor and evaluate the standards of achievement and progress of the year group by using student data and information and, working with College Leadership, implement appropriate interventions to improve student learning and conduct. The key pastoral responsibility is to have the primary role for ensuring effective welfare and behaviour provision across the curriculum of the year group with a particular focus on attendance and attitude towards learning.

For candidates with suitable and relevant leadership experience, there may be an opportunity to be part of our Extended HLT. The successful candidate will be expected to work with the SENDCo, the parent association, partnerships across Lewisham and external agencies. Heads of Year are expected to support the College’s ethos at all times and will liaise closely with the Hatcham Leadership Team.
