Biddick Academy is a thriving, oversubscribed secondary school conveniently located 10 minutes’ drive from Newcastle and Durham. We are passionate about education and believe that all students can and should achieve their full potential. Our extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities motivates students to aim high. 

The academy enjoys an excellent reputation within the local community and has an inclusive and supportive ethos. The pastoral and student support team are committed and dedicated to ensuring a positive environment for learning. 

Our resources are extensive and include the Unity Centre (a specialist A.S.D. provision), a school counsellor, STEPs (a permanent in-school base for vulnerable students), as well as The Bridge, which provides a bespoke KS4 curriculum for a small number of students. 

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Year to join our pastoral team.  In addition, the successful candidate will have:

• An understanding of the monitoring and tracking procedures within school and implementing effective interventions;

• A knowledge and understanding of strategies for ensuring positive behaviour and engagement in learning;

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

• Excellent organisational and time management skills;

• The ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with various stakeholders.

Biddick Academy is a co-educational secondary school based in Washington, near Sunderland, for students aged 11-16. 

In 1997, Biddick was one of the first 11 schools in England to become a specialist sports college. The academy’s facilities include a sports hall, a dance studio, a fitness suite, a gymnasium, a full-size 3G pitch, floodlit tennis courts, a theatre and ICT suites.
