Position Information

Gunnedah High school is situated in the North West of the state, 78 kilometres west of Tamworth in the New England Region. It is a comprehensive co-educational high school which serves the town as well as the surrounding rural districts bounded by Boggabri, Mullaley and Somerton. The Gunnedah and local area communities are experiencing renewal after a period of economic decline. This is due to the abundant supply of energy, raw materials, agriculture and open space for manufacturing facilities. It is predicted that this will lead to increased enrolments at Gunnedah High and its partner primary schools in coming years. Gunnedah High School has a student population of 430, 42% of whom identify as Aboriginal. There is a Gifted and Enrichment program and a Special Education Unit. Many of the students come from a low socio-economic background and the school attracts significant equity funding. Student participation and achievement is encouraged in the academic, cultural and sporting areas of the curriculum and recognised in both the school and local community. The school will become a Connected Communities High School commencing in 2022. This strategy is an approach that schools and communities can use to strengthen the educational outcomes for all students by positioning the school as a community hub. This will also include the employment of an Executive Principal and a School Leader Community Engagement. School initiatives for next year include the development of a Technology centre, extensive expenditure on improving the availability of technology across the whole school, planning for large scale enhancement of Agricultural facilities and the establishment of a Clontarf Foundation Football Academy.
