The Governors are seeking to appoint a Head teacher with excellent leadership qualities and vision to lead this 'outstanding' and well-respected school. Heaton is a secondary special school with an extended education department that caters for pupils aged from 11 to 19 with high level and complex learning difficulties. In addition many pupils have learning, physical and health needs including autism. The school has been judged outstanding in its last three OFSTED inspections.

Heaton offers an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to lead a team of highly skilled and committed staff and to work with remarkable students, supportive parents, carers and governors in partnership with the local authority and the wider community.

The new Head teacher will have the highest expectations of pupils' development, holistic attainment and behaviour and a commitment to the continuing development of the school and extended education department. An ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team including voluntary services and extracurricular providers to provide a rounded education for our pupils is essential, to improve life opportunities. An ability to work closely with families and to nurture the school’s relationships with families.

Applicants should have outstanding specialist teaching skills; excellent professional judgement and interpersonal skills; a sense of humour and the ability to lead, motivate and inspire.
