Merewether High School is an academically selective high school located in Newcastle. It has a high profile and is acknowledged for achieving excellence. Merewether High School is an inspirational model of public education that nurtures the academic, physical, social and emotional wellbeing of all students. In 2021, 1085 students enrolled from a wide geographical area across the Hunter Region including 16 Aboriginal students. The school has an active and supportive parent body who engage in parent learning groups and who collaboratively lead our P&C, canteen and Duke of Edinburgh program. The school has a partnership with the Muloobinbah Local Aboriginal Consultative Group to support students in achieving success in the HSC and to connect with their cultural identity. New merit selection application guidelines for classroom teachers, executives and principals have been introduced to provide greater clarity to applicants and selection panels.
