DISCLOSURE AND BARRING SERVICE (DBS) CHECK: Appointment to this post is exempt from Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and is subject to the following DBS check: - An Enhanced with Children Barred List Check.  

WELSH LANGUAGE: Welsh language skills are desirable.

SAFEGUARDING:

Child and Adult Protection are key priorities for the school and Council. We aim to support children and adults who are at risk to be as safe as they can be and to fulfil their potential. The Headteacher is responsible for playing their part in the well-being, safety and protection of children and adults at risk. They will have a responsibility to participate in training to the appropriate level of safeguarding and have a duty to fulfil their personal responsibilities for safeguarding.  

An exciting career opportunity for a Headteacher to open and lead the new 3-19 all-through school in Abergavenny. 

The governors are looking for an inspirational Headteacher who is committed to delivering improved educational provision for all pupils and students.

The Governing Body require:-

  • an inspirational and effective leader, experienced in significant change management, who will establish and successfully lead a broad, multi-skilled, cross-phase team.
  • an inclusive, outward-looking, community-focused individual who is prepared to work with a wide range of stakeholders to develop the school.
  • an individual who understands the challenges and complexities of establishing and leading a new 3-19 school, with a two form-entry primary-age capacity, drawing from the most disadvantaged area of Abergavenny, as well as children from another seven partner primary schools at Year 7, some of which serve very affluent areas. 

The new school will include a nursery, a Special Needs Resource Base (SNRB) and host Flying Start provision within the site. The innovative design and enhanced facilities on offer will ensure the school is able to establish and grow as a Community Focused school, engaging families and the wider community to support all pupils and students and their families.

  • The successful candidate does not need to be from a particular phase of education or from the Welsh education sector. However, they do need to understand the key features of the Welsh education system and be prepared to immerse themselves in key developments, particularly the Curriculum for Wales.

We are looking for a leader who will:

(i) ensure all pupils will have the support and opportunities to achieve their full potential;

(ii) have a firm commitment to high quality educational provision;

(iii) carry out the duties of a Headteacher as required by statute and as specified in the terms and conditions of service.

Our inspirational Headteacher will:

  • have a proven track record as an effective school leader; 
  • have a comprehensive understanding of pedagogy and its importance in the design and delivery of the Curriculum for Wales;
  • have a clear vision for the education of all pupils and promote the school’s aims, objectives and values, while embracing new initiatives;
  • lead, develop, support and motivate all staff;
  • communicate effectively at all levels: pupils, staff, parents and the wider community;
  • foster and further develop links with the community;
  • promote and embed a culture of inclusive practice for all pupils, and across all aspects of school life;
  • set high expectations in order to achieve the best outcomes for all pupils;
  • drive forward all aspects of planning in order to achieve the aims and vision of the school;
  • monitor and evaluate the impact of teaching, learning and provision on pupil progress so that each individual pupil has every opportunity to reach their full potential;
  • maintain, develop and encourage the broader life of the school and help to ensure a good work/school life balance for the school community;
  • maintain, develop and promote partnerships with external agencies, the local community and cluster schools;
  • manage resources and funding available to the school and ensure it is effectively and efficiently utilised;
  • ensure all staff have regular opportunities to engage in a range of high-quality professional learning to develop teaching and leadership skills;
  • In Wales, an NPQH qualification or significant experience as a substantive Headteacher is a requirement for this post.
