Creativity, Consistency, Celebration
The governors of Kenilworth Primary School are seeking to appoint an inspirational headteacher to lead the continuing development of our school.
Kenilworth was judged as being Requires Improvement in its last Ofsted inspection in June 2018. Since then the school has been on a journey to improve we are looking for someone to continue the progress already made.

To learn more about our school please take a moment to visit our website: https://www.kenilworthprimary.com/

Borehamwood is a diverse and growing community. Our school is justly proud of its place in the heart of the local community and has been successfully educating children for over 60 years. The school has a strong, well led team of staff, many of whom are long serving, who are committed to ensuring their pupils achieve their potential whatever their starting points. The children in the school develop into happy, confident, socially aware independent learners who leave the school well prepared for the next stage of their journey in education.

The school supports a range of extra-curricular activities as well as before and after school provision. We are looking now for a full time committed individual with the commitment and vision to lead the school through these uncertain times without losing sight of our key vision and ethos. Whilst, at the same time, offering fresh ideas and insights to ensure the best outcomes for our children.

You will bring:

  • A successful record of leadership roles.
  • A commitment to inclusivity and a passion for raising standards.
  • A rigorous approach in identifying pupil achievement gaps and an imaginative approach to the instigation of interventions to address these gaps.
  • A desire to maintain and progressively build upon the schools existing caring and nurturing ethos with the welfare of the children and staff at the heart of everything that we do.
  • An ability to support, motivate and inspire staff and to communicate a clear vision and direction for the school.
  • A willingness to be a visible, positive and approachable presence around the school, fostering a collegiate spirit throughout the community.
  • A resilient and clear headed approach which allows for sound and consistent judgement when challenges arise.
  • The energy and creativity to drive the school forward.

We can offer:

  • A dedicated, talented and hard-working staff who are highly motivated to provide our children with stimulating, challenging and memorable learning experiences.
  • A welcoming and positive school with children who are ready and willing to learn.
  • A commitment to your continued professional development.
  • A strong leadership team.
  • A supportive and committed governing board.

The School

Kenilworth Primary School is a group 2, one form entry school with an Early Years unit for the Nursery and Reception age children. The school was built in 1953. For many years it was a first school until the re-organisation of Borehamwood from a three tier to a two tier system in 2001. Our school is close to junction 1 on the A1M and near the M25.

Our pupils

We have a class per year group with a maximum of 30 children in the infant classes. The school population is fairly transient with a number of families moving to Borehamwood from the London boroughs. We have a diverse ethnic mix and about a third of our children are on the special needs register at any one time. When the children leave our school the majority will go to our local secondary school, Hertswood.

The staff

The whole staff team is very enthusiastic about giving our children every opportunity to achieve. We are committed to raising the standards of achievement in all areas of the curriculum. There is a good range of experience and expertise amongst the staff. The support staff are all valued and crucial members of our team in whatever capacity they work. All staff have annual performance management carried out by the Head and Deputy.

Organisation

We have a weekly staff meeting. Phase meetings and Senior Management meetings are held as frequently as necessary. The teaching assistants have meetings with a senior teacher and are invited to attend any training that would be beneficial to them.

Every member of staff is entitled to a performance and professional development interview on an annual basis.

We have a well established monitoring system that is carried out by senior management and subject managers. All teachers who are eligible, take responsibility for a subject or aspect of the curriculum.

We ensure that all teaching staff have a weekly slot for PPA time covered by our sports co-ordinator.

Our school education plan is reviewed annually by all staff and governors who also help to formulate the new plan.

Home/school and community links

We try to encourage a positive and mutually supportive partnership with our parents and offer various opportunities for them to discuss their children’s general progress and more specifically towards meeting core subject targets. All children from year 1 are assessed three times a year with challenging end of year targets being agreed.

Our PTA, plays an active role in organising various events to raise money for school.

We have close links with our local church, the other primary schools in Borehamwood as well as the local secondary school. We are part of a network of six schools who work together to raise standards with a focus on either Literacy or Numeracy. Events and programmes of work are planned together so that our children see themselves as part of the wider Borehamwood community. Our teaching staff use opportunities to take our children on educational visits to broaden their horizons further.

Curriculum/ Planning and Assessment

We follow a skills based topic curriculum that is cross- curricular. Subject leaders are responsible for formulating, monitoring and evaluating their subject school action plans and linked budget which they bid for on an annual basis. Planning follows a set format and on-going assessment is matched to the outcomes. Progress and achievement is also logged on trackers and the teachers do termly progress and attainment analysis reports.

Website

Our website is updated regularly updated and contains a variety of information about the school.
