Job overview

Pathfield is a Special School covering a wide catchment area in beautiful rural Devon. Our pupils are aged 3-19 years with severe, profound and complex needs including autism.  There are 127 pupil places in the main school and a further 7 places in a discrete unit - Pathways. Our curriculum is innovative, exciting and varied as we offer individualised learning to help all our pupils to reach their very varied targets.

The school puts great value in:

  • creative arts, through diverse use of music, art and drama;
  • exploring the outside environment through the Forest School, visits to beaches, surfing and walking in the beautiful North Devon countryside;
  • developing potential for independence through our easy access to Barnstaple Town Centre;
  • regular residential trips, particularly to the Calvert Trust, providing our pupils with exciting challenges.

It is a founder member of the Sentient Trust and also works closely with Integrated Children’s Services.

In March 2018 Ofsted rated Pathfield as continuing to be a good school which may be moving to Outstanding. They recommended that the next Inspection be a full section 5.

Due to the retirement of our Head Teacher the Governors are looking for an exceptional, motivated and inspirational individual to lead and manage this diverse school from either Easter 2019 or September 2019, depending on their availability.

The successful candidate will be an excellent leader and also be financially aware. They will:

  • provide both support and challenge to the school team to grow and develop the provision;
  • manage the team effectively to ensure that the financial constraints which affect the ways in which schools work, do not adversely affect the outcomes for the pupils;
  • encourage them to work closely with other stakeholders to provide a full rounded package which meet the diverse needs of the pupils.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. The post requires an enhanced DBS check.

The role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Informal visits to school are recommended during w/c 15th October and 29th October 2018  (visits could also be arranged during Half Term w/c 22nd October)  prior to application - please book these by email via Jo Boydd, Clerk to the Governors at: JBoydd@pathfield.devon.sch.uk
