Job overview

Learning, Caring, Succeeding …together.

The Governors, staff and children of Little Common school are looking for an inspirational, dynamic, and caring Headteacher to lead and further develop our exceptional primary school.

The successful candidate will be committed to our school values (confident, creative, resilient, considerate, health and ambitious) and able to:

- Develop and share clearly an ambitious vision for the school

- Motivate, coach, challenge and nurture staff at all levels

- Inspire trust and confidence in all stakeholders

- Think creatively and innovatively

- Exercise flexibility, resilience and good judgement

In exchange for your dedication to our children, community and values, we will provide:

- Enthusiastic  children who are passionate about learning

- Staff who are committed to ensuring that every child is supported to develop independence and reach their potential

- A supportive governing body who are committed to your further professional development

- Opportunities to work with and support other schools and to have an impact beyond Little Common School

- A vibrant school environment where nurturing pupils’ enjoyment of learning underpins everything that happens.

Little Common, which is a large 3 form entry school, was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in March 2020. They said: ‘This is a vibrant school with a warm and kindly heart. Nurturing pupils’ enjoyment of learning underpins everything that happens here. Leaders’ expectations are consistently high. This is reflected in pupils’ excellent academic achievements, exemplary behaviour and strong attitudes to learning’

The school is very proud that the achievement of pupils at all levels is consistently above the national averages at the statutory measuring points. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the data for academic year 21/22 showed that pupil achievements have been restored to pre- pandemic levels.

The children at Little Common School (in their own words) are looking for a Headteacher who is:

- Kind

- Strict but fair to keep behaviour good

- Resilient so if something bad happens at school they won’t just leave us for another school

- Humble because they can’t let their powerful position go to their head

- Good at picking good staff so we have good teachers

- Welcoming so that everyone feels safe and happy

- Generous so they are willing to spend their time making the school better, so it doesn’t just stay the same

- Understanding of everyone’s views and opinions

- Inquisitive because they need to want to keep learning and not assume that they know everything

We would welcome the opportunity to show you our school and to give you a chance to meet some staff and pupils before you submit your application. To make an appointment please contact the school by phone on 01424 847540 or by email: finance@littlecommon.e-sussex.sch.uk
