Job overview

Headteacher – Knole Development Centre

Salary – £45-50,000 (+ CPD opportunity).

Closing date 21/11/2018, 12:00 noon.

A fantastic opportunity for either a current leader or an outstanding teacher with demonstrable leadership potential, to guide the school on its journey to outstanding.

Knole Development Centre (KDC) is the education provision for adolescent in-patients at Cygnet hospital Godden Green, and is a specialist provider for young people who are suffering from severe and/or complex mental health conditions. The current capacity of the school is 24, and the young people stay for an average period 42 days. Class sizes range from between 1-7 students.

Registered with the department for education in April 2014, KDC has recently been through a full OFSTED inspection, achieving ‘Good’ overall. Inspectors were impressed by the ‘Haven of calm’ in the school, putting this down to how staff in the school are ‘caring, and highly skilled at supporting pupil’s wellbeing’.

We are looking to appoint a candidate with a proven track record of outstanding classroom practice who is able to maintain the high expectations and challenge of all staff and students. You will bring passion, vision and creativity to developing and delivering high quality education at the school whilst also possessing the people skills to manage a staff team and effectively integrate the school within the wider hospital. The post holder will have the support of Cygnet’s head of education and the opportunity to undertake national professional leadership qualifications providing an excellent opportunity for further growth.

In return you will be rewarded with a supportive head of education and parent company, a committed school community and the associated job satisfaction of working in this uniquely rewarding environment.

For additional information please download our candidate briefing pack or call Ed Hall (head of education) for an informal chat on 07860834648 (email edwardhall@cygnethealth.co.uk).

Visits to the school are welcome. We have appointments available throughout the vacancy period, please contact Keyleigh Eastwood on 01732763491 or keyleigheastwood@cygnethealth.co.uk to arrange. Such a visit is not part of the selection process and whether or not applicants have visited will not influence the final outcome.

To make an application please complete and return the application form and return with a covering letter to edwardhall@cygnethealth.co.uk. The successful candidate is to commence work in January 2018 or as soon as possible after.

Safeguarding is of the utmost importance at Cygnet and we follow safer recruitment practice including taking up references after shortlisting and before interviewing. Cygnet Health Care has a proven commitment to “Equality of Opportunity” and actively promotes the welfare and safeguarding of young people.

Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
