About Twydall Primary School and Nursery

Welcome to Twydall Primary School and Nursery, part of the RMET (Rainham Mark Education Trust) family of Schools.

External verification clearly highlights Twydall Primary is rapidly moving  forward on our journey to be rightly recognised as being a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted.

"A nurturing school at the heart of its community"

Care, Courtesy, Commitment and Consideration in our Community

Team Twydall strive to be the very best they can be.  We are a happy and motivated community; our inclusive ethos is built around the 4 C’s:

All our work is underpinned by our highly qualified, dedicated and innovative specialist staff. Our curriculum intent is to increase each child’s cultural capital through:

  • Recognising children’s prior learning.
  • Providing a specialist based teaching, which offers rich learning experiences connected through the skills of reading.
  • Developing interpersonal skills, resilience, intellectual curiosity
  • Stretch, challenge and inspire.
  • Developing a sense of passion and knowledge of their local area and communities.
  • Experiencing the joy of learning through challenging enrichment opportunities.

Our curriculum Implementation is based around specialist teaching in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 to deliver the core subjects of Reading, Writing and Maths and also for the teaching of the Foundation subjects of Science, Humanities and Art. We are developing these subjects to deliver a locally rich Geography, History and skills based Art and Science curricula. Our science lab and bespoke art room are clearly creating awe and wonder for all pupils. We aim to provide opportunities to develop a thirst for new experiences, skills and knowledge. We believe that education goes well beyond the school wall and as such every year group has regular opportunities to experience educational visits to places such as Rochester to study Charles Dickens, History and RE, or Horton Kirby to study rivers. These help to develop the cultural capital of our pupils.

In EYFS our children learn through a mixture of child initiated play and direct teaching in small groups. The classroom environments are carefully set up to develop curiosity, independence and challenge. The development of language through rhyme and story-telling are a focus. Pupils are able to learn inside and outside across the sessions. RWI phonics is introduced in the nursery as a foundation for reception. In Key Stage 1 children are registered in their home classrooms but then move for phonics, English and Maths lessons. All other subjects are taught in the home classrooms we recognising the need for children to develop their imaginations and learn through play we practice Continuous provision throughout Reception and Year 1 and 2 to encourage children’s development and encourage their natural curiosity.

Nurturing of our children is paramount; childhood should be a safe, happy time and children need to be ready to learn. Each child has a home teacher and group where they register and are taught PSHE, RE, MFL, Music and PE.  We are a trauma aware school and have a well-being centre where we can offer a raft of support such as play therapy, counselling, Lego and drawing and talking. We work with parents, Governors, RMET and Medway LA to provide a stimulating and rewarding education, which goes beyond the classroom and contributes to our local community.

Twydall Primary strongly supports staff CPL and staff well-being through the Trust network.  Our staff are committed, hardworking and passionate to support pupils and the school in order to raise standards of achievement for all pupils.  This includes promoting high quality teaching, monitoring and assessment and the effective use of resources to encourage pupils to become independent learners.  To provide support for their welfare, and to support the inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life.

Please contact the school to discuss any questions you may have regarding our provision on 01634 231761 or e-mail office@twydallprimary.org.uk.
