Job overview

Following the retirement of Dorothy MacGinty after seven years of inspirational service, the governors of Kilgraston School are seeking a new head from April or August 2022

Kilgraston is a day and boarding school for around 270 children, co-educational from 5 to 12 and girls only from 12 to 18.

Located in an idyllic, tranquil but easily- reached setting a few miles south of Perth, Kilgraston is a thriving, busy and friendly school, where pupils are valued for who they are as individuals. Pupils are educated to the highest standards, giving them the knowledge, skills and aspiration to succeed to the best of their abilities in a fast-changing world.

With a strong and purposeful approach based on the Catholic faith, Kilgraston provides a first-class, Scottish academic education, as evidenced by our outstanding results, combined with excellent co-curricular and pastoral provision that ensures girls leave the school as accomplished young women who attend excellent universities across the UK and overseas and go on to have very successful careers.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced educational leader to take the School to its next stage of development. A current Head or a successful Senior Leader, the ideal candidate will have the strategic vision, drive and energy to shape a school that adheres to its traditions yet is outward facing and modern in its outlook.

Introduction

Kilgraston is a leading independent boarding and day school can accommodate up to 300 pupils from 5 to 18 years.  It is located in 54 acres of stunning parkland in Bridge of Earn, three miles from the centre of Perth. The school has an outstanding record of academic achievement.

With high pupil numbers, Kilgraston is investing for the future.  In recent years the school has undertaken an impressive development programme. New additions to the school include: a bistro style dining-room, a 150 seat theatre, major refurbishment of boarding accommodation, a new sports pavilion and a 25m indoor swimming pool complex. The school has also introduced hockey, tennis and swimming academies to further enhance the extensive range of extracurricular activities. Our latest developments are a new Science Centre and Sixth Form Centre, both completed in summer 2013.

The Mission

Kilgraston is a Catholic school with an ecumenical tradition and, as a member of the international network of Sacred Heart Schools, has a strong sense of community which is maintained through the hard work of every member.  The School has traditionally attracted pupils from around the world with pupils coming from countries such as Mexico, Spain, Germany and China.

Kilgraston is guided by the principles of the Sacred Heart:

  • Faith relevant in the world today
  • Personal growth
  • A deep respect for intellectual values
  • Community
  • Social awareness

The Campus

The Senior School classrooms, including the bespoke music rooms and fully updated ICT facilities, sit alongside the elegant Georgian mansion, which is at the heart of the campus. High standard boarding accommodation, interconnected to the main building, is provided for pupils from the age of 8 to 18, with a separate boarding house for sixth form. There are residential staff in each boarding area.

The most recent Care Inspectorate report praised the excellent standard of the pastoral care -
an achievement staff and pupils are rightly proud of.
