Job overview

Westfield Primary Community School is a larger than average primary school, one of the largest schools in the City of York, with 586 pupils including Nursery. We are situated to the west of the city in an urban area of Acomb with a catchment that consists of council and private housing.

A growing and developing school, our maximum admission limit was increased to 90 pupils 3 years ago, with current year groups ranging from 58 to 90 pupils per year group, resulting in the challenge of some mixed year group classes. There is always a good deal going on at our school, typified by a wide variety of activities for our children and the current £660k local authority funded redesign of our kitchen and dining hall aimed at raising awareness of healthy lifestyles both in school throughout the local community.

Rated by Ofsted as Good (2018), we are a happy, welcoming and friendly school where our children are at the centre of everything we do.

Responsible for the day to day activities of the school and ensuring that children come first, you will contribute to, and deliver, the school improvement plan, including the next steps set out in the school’s most recent Ofsted inspection letter.

In addition, you will also tackle attendance and punctuality issues and ensure the social and parental support provided by our children’s champions continues to evolve.

A skilled, resilient and experienced leader, you will continue to raise standards, improve parental engagement and deliver distributed leadership at all levels.

We are rightly proud of our school and need a Headteacher who has presence and the experience to oversee the continued development of our curriculum, raise aspirations across the wider school community and, above all, ensure pupils make the best possible progress over time.

To be successful, you must be able to provide strong, clear leadership and inspire and support staff, ensuring they continue to develop and feel part of a valued team. In addition, you must have a strategic vision for our school, a good knowledge of SEN and experience of engaging with the wider community.

York is a beautiful, thriving city with low unemployment and highly performing tourism, cultural and entertainments industries. Road, rail, bus, car and cycle routes are very good. The city is on several main rail lines served by York Railway Station. Outside the station is a significant bus hub that serves the further reaches of the city and beyond, but particularly those to Acomb.

We would love you to come for a visit and experience our unique school for yourself. Please contact Carol Pearce, School Business Manager on 01904 555295 or email: carol.pearce@westfield.yorkschools.net to make an appointment.
