The Hutchins School, established in 1846, is an Anglican Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 day and boarding school in Hobart, Tasmania. We are an Anglican school whose supportive learning community works together to nurture character of our students.

The School seeks to appoint a fixed term, part time Health and Physical Education Teacher to join our vibrant team in Sandy Bay ideally commencing in Term 2 although needs will be throughout 2022 with a possibility to extend longer.

We seek applications for the role of Teacher with Health and Physical Education experience and qualifications relevant to the teaching and learning of boys anywhere between Years 6-12. This position being 0.54 - 0.6 FTE with possibility of less hours or full time subject to your individual availability and interest.  

The successful candidate will be delivering and coordinating a wide range of educational and co-curricular programs and experiences. You will have excellent communication skills and a positive team approach.   

To be successful in this role you will: 

  • Have demonstrated an ability to work responsibility for the effective pastoral care of students. 
  • Work both independently and co-operatively with other staff members. 
  • Be able to develop and implement appropriate teaching strategies to facilitate student learning. 
  • Be familiar with relevant curriculum documentation, e.g. ACARA, Office of the Tasmanian Assessment Standards and Certification (TASC) and the Schools Registration Board of Tasmania (SRB). 
  • Well-developed organizational and decision-making skills.  
  • Have a proven ability to relate to boys and understand the value of single-gender education. 
  • Be a qualified teacher, registered to teach or be eligible to teach, within the State of Tasmania.

About The Hutchins School

The Hutchins School is an independent, Anglican day and boarding school for boys from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 in Sandy Bay, Tasmania.

The school was founded in 1846 as a memorial to The Venerable William Hutchins, first Archdeacon of the colony of Van Diemen’s Land.

Facilities

The Hutchins School Library consists of three mini-school information resource centres – the Early Learning Centre Library, the Stephens Library for Junior and Middle Schools and the Senior School's Nettlefold Library.

The Centre for Excellence provides learning support and extension programs. 

In Years 11 and 12, the school has co-operating school arrangements with St Michael’s Collegiate and Fahan School, so students are able to choose from over 100 potential elective courses.

Curriculum

The school has an Early Learning Centre for Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 and the curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework with a Reggio Emilia approach where relevant and the Australian Curriculum for Prep (Foundation) to Year 2. The class teacher takes all of the core subject areas including, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Art. Specialist teachers are provided for Music, French, Physical Education, Library and RAVE (Religious and Values Education). 

In senior school students pick elective subject options as they move through Years 9 and 10. The co-curricular program in Junior and Senior school includes Music, Performing Arts, Debating, Sports and Duke of Edinburgh
