The Westcountry Schools Trust (WeST) is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual with vision, energy and inspirational leadership to the position of Health, Safety and Environmental Manager.

The Westcountry Schools Trustis a tight-knit family of schools based around natural geographical proximity in the South West. We have been working across multiple schools since 2011 but WeST was formed as it is today in 2017 through a significant spurt of growth. The WeST family consists of 22 schools, of which 7 are secondary and 15 primary. We are ambitious and hold high expectations for the children in our care. We strive consistently to perform in the top 20% nationally.

WeST believes in promoting and supporting an appropriate balance between strong alignment and independence with schools. It is important for all our schools to maintain their own identity and celebrate their unique qualities. However, we believe that working collaboratively we will enable our children and staff to access the best resources and learning opportunities. We aim to identify the strengths of our collective practice and share them effectively across our schools such that all our children benefit from our professional expertise.

The key purpose of the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager is to lead on the development of strategic initiatives relating to all health and safety services throughout the Trust. This is to include responsibility for the development and implementation of all health and safety policies and risk assessmentswhilst working with and supporting the head teachers/principals to ensure WeST is compliant in all aspects of the HASAWA 1974.

The successful candidate will be required to support the work of the Estates Director and Executive Leadership Team. They will also be responsible for investigating/advising on incidents as well as supporting the in-house estates team with CDM on the capital projects programme.

The successful applicant must have a proven track record of success in leading health and safety policy development and promoting a strong health and safety culture throughout the organisation. WeST is an outward looking, multifaceted trust that operates in partnership with the RSC Office, Teaching School Council, numerous schools, Higher Education Institutions and employers across the South West and beyond. Indeed, we are proud that within WeST there is a cohort 1 Teaching School that has been effectively supporting children beyond our own boundaries for nearly a decade.
