We are seeking an outstanding Higher Level Learning Mentor to join our exceptional team.

The successful post holder will be required to work as a Learning Mentor, to work independently in planning, delivering and assessing learning and interventions, including accredited courses, to individuals and small groups of targeted pupils within the relevant setting; to provide support both in-class and on a one to one, where additional needs in learning or behaviour are a barrier to inclusion and progress.

The Kingswood Secondary Academy, part of the Greenwood Academies Trust (GAT), is situated in Corby and hosts exceptional teaching facilities, including innovatively designed ICT suites and purpose built laboratories. The academy is led by an inspirational Principal, Andrew Burton, who is committed to securing achievement for all pupils and has high expectations of pupils.

This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to develop their teaching skills whilst working in a supportive environment. To be successful you must be able to demonstrate:

  • excellent      communication skills;
  • the      ability to relate to and engage with a wide range of pupils;
  • great      organisational skills;
  • high      standards in terms of achievement and behaviour.

The academy is part of the Greenwood Academies Trust, which offers great development and progression opportunities, an attractive pension scheme and tax efficient childcare vouchers. You will be required to work term time only so this is reflected in the pro-rata’d salary.

Kingswood Secondary Academy

The Academy Community

The Kingswood Secondary Academy caters for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 19. The Academy started life as a grammar school in 1965 with 150 students, and then grew into a flourishing comprehensive school for over 1200 students. The Academy is sited in a brand new building completed in June 2010. The new building occupies a site in between two former school sites – the former Kingswood site and Our Lady & Pope John School.

Kingswood is a neighbourhood Academy which serves its local community. We do not select students on grounds of ability, or on any other grounds. We cater for students of all abilities – from the most able to those who require additional support.

We aim to provide a safe and secure environment where all students can prosper and make the most of their talents and abilities – whether they are in the classroom, on stage, or on the sports field. We expect the best in all that we do. We also aim to help our students become responsible members of the wider community – the citizens of tomorrow. Similarly, we have high expectations of ourselves and strive to provide high quality support and guidance alongside stimulating and engaging learning experiences.

Our Facilities

In September 2010, we moved into our state-of-the-art new buildings. We are now embarking on one of the most exciting periods in our history and this brings with it a real opportunity for the students at Kingswood to take advantage of brand new facilities such as ICT suites, Technology rooms and Science laboratories, fantastic facilities for the arts, and sports facilities of the highest quality. The buildings incorporate many exciting features – innovatively designed ICT suites, facilities for the arts of a professional standard, as well as purpose-built suites for Science and Technology. The provision for the arts is equal to those found in many small commercial theatres: a large performance area, a drama suite and a sprung floor dance studio. The performance area is fitted out with commercial lighting and retractable tiered seating to allow it to function as a theatre. Our sports facilities include an all-weather, floodlit training surface, with three separate areas marked out for football, rugby training and hockey. We have a large hard surfaced Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), a huge sports hall offering virtually every facility available and a multi-gym, fitted with the latest cardiovascular machines.

The Greenwood Academies Trust

The Sponsor of the Kingswood Secondary Academy is Greenwood Academies Trust. Information about the Trust can be found on-line at www.greenwoodacademies.org. The Greenwood Academies Trust is a not-for-profit educational organisation. It specialises in working with schools in challenging circumstances. It has a track record of delivering significant improvement in these schools. The Trust offers high levels of educational expertise and we seek to deliver long lasting and productive relationships with the communities we serve.

We firmly believe this is an exciting time to be part of Kingswood and are delighted that you are interested in working at our Academy.
