Job overview

1.0 FTE TEACHER OF HISTORY

Required September 2018

Could the grass be greener elsewhere?  We think it is here! We have a gorgeous open site in the Yorkshire Dales, well-behaved students, happy staff and we are going places!

We would love you to come and have a look around as a prospective Teacher of History with us. CPD is focused on pedagogy, underpinned by up to date research. Teachers continually develop their craft with the support of their peers and the senior leadership team.

The post requires an inspirational, energetic and reflective individual.  As a Teacher of History, you will be required to teach across both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will be required to keep abreast of educational theory, to inform your teaching, understand the value of knowledge in the curriculum and the ability to apply that knowledge in a contextual manner.

We require our teachers to understand the process of cognition and meta-cognition when planning valuable educational experiences for our students.  Our staff are relentless in their ambition to ensure the success of our students.  Our approach is simple; clear systems and unapologetically high expectations.

We’d like to hear from you if you:

· Are looking to work in an amazing school

· Have a ‘can do’ attitude

· Are inspirational

· Are reflective

What we are offering:

· A salary commensurate with experience – applications from newly qualified teachers are welcome

· Opportunities for career progression

· A thriving community ethos

We are on the move to ‘Outstanding’ and are looking for forward-thinking, emotionally intelligent and innovative teachers to join a supportive team that is committed to improving the life chances of young people.  You would be part of an organisation that enjoys a great reputation in the area and one that will develop your career; we have a great track record and there are numerous opportunities for professional development.

Our students are a key factor in making the school a welcoming and friendly learning environment and all stakeholders adhere to 3 key behaviours that shape the school’s mission and ethos: respectful, hard-working and positive.

Our school has a strong community feel and is set in a beautiful part of the North Yorkshire countryside. There are a wide range of shopping, leisure and cultural facilities as well as excellent schools, universities, road and rail links which provide convenient connectivity to the metropolitan cities of Leeds and Newcastle. We border the Lake District, Lancashire, County Durham, and Yorkshire & Humber regions with all they have to offer. North Yorkshire is a spectacular place to live and work.

Further details and an application form are available in the ‘vacancies’ section of our website under the ‘Join Us’ tab: www.wensleydaleschool.net.  Completed applications should be returned to Mrs N Geater, Business Manager, at The Wensleydale School & Sixth Form, Richmond Road, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, DL8 5HY or emailed to admin@wensleydaleschool.net. Ofsted

“This is a good and continuously improving school. Some aspects of this school’s work are outstanding, particularly the drive to engage all students, parents and carers, staff and governors in making further improvements. Overall, leadership and management are very effective, with senior leaders and managers very aware of the strengths and areas for future development. Those students with identified learning needs are also making good overall progress, with many gaining a number of vocationally orientated awards, alongside the more traditional accreditation of GCSE”
