Job overview

Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Housemistress/master for one of our junior girls' Houses from August 2021.

Our Boarding Houses offer more than accommodation; they are the centre of our pupils’ daily lives, the place they can call home, where they can relax, socialise and study under the experienced supervision of resident pastoral teams. Our Housemistresses and Housemasters are therefore crucial figures with prime responsibility for the House. They create and maintain a family atmosphere within which all pupils feel supported and fulfilled. An environment where pupils are encouraged to develop socially, physically, academically and in doing so make the most of their experience here at Loretto.

To be successful, you will ideally have experience in a similar role and be able to demonstrate a real passion and commitment for the development, care and support of children and young adults.

Our ideal candidate is a qualified teacher, who is eligible to be registered with the GTCS. However, we are keen to get the right person, who is going to make a real difference. Therefore, applications from candidates with strong evidence in supporting, developing and nurturing children will also be considered.

Here at Loretto, we strive to know and nurture all of our pupils helping them to develop into knowledgeable, capable and confident young adults. All staff are expected to contribute fully to the School’s extensive academic, pastoral, and co-curricular programmes. The academic, pastoral, and co-curricular timetable includes teaching on Saturday mornings along with weekend and evening duties.

This is a full-time permanent post required for an August 2021 start. Salary will be determined by experience and aptitude for the role and an allowance will be payable in addition to basic salary. Accommodation is provided on-site which is available to the role holder throughout the year.
