A generalist HR Management role, providing support and guidance to the Principal and Senior Leadership Team in relation to all HR activities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Populating job adverts and producing job descriptions and person specifications in liaison with Heads of Department
  • Posting job adverts to the relevant sites, including further developing the use of social media
  • Coordinating the shortlisting process
  • Organising and coordinating recruitment days, including scheduling, room bookings, collating lesson topics, drawing up in-tray tasks, making reference requests, creating interview packs, meeting and greeting candidates upon arrival, and shuttling candidates between interview tasks
  • Making job offers and declining unsuccessful candidates
  • Producing offer letters and contracts of employment and sending out offer packs
  • Meeting with new starters following their appointment in order to obtain the necessary paperwork
  • Ensuring new employees meet all of the safeguarding requirements prior to joining the School
  • Supporting line managers with the probation process for new employees
  • Conducting Educational Support Staff inductions
  • Ensuring that the required regulatory standards are adhered to in conducting and recording the necessary pre-employment checks, and that structures, systems and documentation are in place to support this
  • Ensuring that the School’s Single Central Record is maintained to the required regulatory standards, and that structures, systems and documentation are in place to support this
  • Monitoring absences, producing absence reports, holding return to work and absence meetings with staff as necessary
  • Ensuring the sickness and absence policies are adhered to and that absences are correctly recorded
  • Supporting the Business Director and Assistant Principal for Staff Development with the annual appraisal process
  • Assisting the Principal and Senior Leadership Team in the management of disciplinary, competency and grievance procedures in accordance with United Learning policy and procedure
  • Liaising with United Learning to ensure proposed actions are in line with Group policy and guidelines
  • Liaising with United Learning schools and beyond to share ideas and develop best practice in HR management in schools
  • Drafting ad hoc letters
  • Managing the maternity and paternity leave processes
  • Conducting exit interviews and reporting on these
  • Dealing with day-to-day HR enquiries from staff, keeping the Principal fully informed
  • Liaising with the Finance Team over pay and pension queries
  • Providing administrative support for the execution of United Learning HR policy and procedure
  • Line management of the HR Administrator

The successful candidate will be likely to fit the following profile:

  • Good First Degree in any discipline
  • A relevant CIPD or similar HR qualification
  • Experience of HR management in a commercial or school environment
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Record of developing and sustaining positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Experience handling investigations, disciplinaries, grievances and appeals from start to finish
  • Excellent attention to detail and administrative skills
  • High levels of personal and professional organization, integrity, discretion and confidentiality
  • Sound judgement and the ability to take difficult decisions to resolve issues, especially when under pressure
  • Ability to communicate concisely and sensitively both orally and in writing
  • Commitment to the use of current and emerging technologies to enhance the educational offering and administration of the School
  • A passion for excellence and a willingness to engage in the life of the School community so as to support our vision and values
