Job overview

Dear prospective applicant,

Thank you for expressing an interest in this key vacancy at our college. This post has become vacant due to the promotion of the current post-holder to middle management and an expansion of the college.

Crown Hills Community College has been serving the community since 1950 and continues to be a Good school after last being inspected in January 2016.

Having taken over as Principal in August 2017 I am appreciative of all the work that has been done before my arrival which will allow me to grow the College even further. My desire is that we do not become a College that is driven by OFSTED and whether we are GOOD or OUTSTANDING. I want us to be at the forefront of educational excellence because we want to provide the best educational experience possible for the children in our care. This is extremely difficult in a climate of ever increasing accountability and diminishing resources. However I sincerely believe that if we lead this community by staying true to our values then it is possible.

I have therefore spent time with staff and exploring what it is we stand for and after a school wide consultation have decided that ASPIRATION, COMMITMENT AND SUCCESS are the three key drivers that will support the development of our pupils.

The Social Inclusion Worker will work with the team to support challenging behavioural learning difficulties and foster the participation of students in the social and academic aspects of college life.

The successful candidate will be committed to the students and college life and will possess the ability to communicate effectively and be able to raise the standards of learning for all of the students that they are required to work with.

As a valued member of the Student Support Team the post holder will deliver educational and mentoring sessions to small groups and work on a one to one basis with particular students.

The post holder will need to use engagement techniques in order to reach young people to improve their participation in the curriculum.

We have an outstanding reputation for our inclusive work with EAL and SEND pupils. However one of our key areas of development is nurturing and growing our more able pupils, both academically and culturally.

We want to build a learning community that is built on trust and continuous professional development.

Candidates should pay attention to the person specification and explain within their application how they meet the criteria, whilst also describing what they will bring to the post from their own knowledge, experience and understanding of supporting vulnerable children in a school/college setting.

Crown Hills Community College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are therefore expected to behave in such a way that supports this commitment.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the following satisfactory pre-employment checks:

  • Identity
  • Relevant work qualifications
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Barred List Check (previously List 99)
  • Disclosure & Barring Service Check
  • References

Further information about the college’s aims and values can be found on our website at www.crownhills.com. We expect applicants to be committed to equal opportunities, multi-cultural education and team-working. As a community college, we believe strongly that education is from cradle to grave and there will be plenty of ways in which the successful applicant will be able to involve themselves in wider educational concerns. Crown Hills has a strong commitment to C.P.D. This is an excellent place in which to further your career.

Should you wish to visit the College please contact my PA Jo Amey by email jamey@crownhills.leicester.sch.uk

Please read the attached job description and person specification. If you are interested in applying, please fill in the application form available on our website: www.crownhills.com, outlining how you meet the person specification in Section 7 and including e-mail addresses of all referees. All completed applications to be emailed to jamey@crownhills.leicester.sch.uk by 12 noon on Thursday, 16th August, 2018.

If you haven’t been contacted by Wednesday 22nd August, please assume your application has been unsuccessful. Interviews are due to take place on Friday 24th August 2018.

I look forward to meeting you and receiving your application.

Yours sincerely,

Mr F Adam

Principal

Our aim has always been to make Crown Hills Community College one of the best schools to attend as a child and to work in as a member of staff.

The last few years have been amazing for our college community, as we have started to gain external recognition for the way we are doing things; from being shortlisted twice for the TES well-being school of the year in 2022 and 2023, to being one of five schools to win the Silver Award for the Pearson's secondary school of the year.

Every decision that we take is done with a lot of thought and consideration and we put well-being at the centre, so that teachers can teach and students can learn.

Therefore, we are not a college that is driven by OFSTED and whether we are GOOD or OUTSTANDING but we do things because they are at the very essence of helping our children and school community to be the best that they can be.

We have nearly 200 staff and 1500 students. Our mission is simple, we want every student to be the best that they can be, thrive in the best possible career and contribute positively to society.

We are very clear that the gender, background, colour, financial or social status of a child should have no bearing on how well they perform and staff here work extremely hard in trying to close that gap between the different groups of pupils.

We are well oversubscribed, even though we have increased our PAN from 240 to 300 pupils, we have more applicants than we have spaces. Our P8 score has also increased year on year and we have fluctuated between the top 12% and 20% of schools nationally. We are particularly proud that our PP pupils achieved a score of +0.17 in 2023.
