  • Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the SON curriculum and varied assessments, the Framework for Teaching, and data analysis.
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
  • Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with SON initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
  • Create an articulated schedule with school administration.
  • Assist teachers in understanding the School of the Nations’ mission and core values.
  • Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings.
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
  • Support teachers by helping with the ―strategic how of teaching -- share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
  • Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
  • Utilize Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice.
  • Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
  • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
  • Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
  • Attend summer training sessions as necessary.

Working Hours & Schedule

Teachers have 36 working hours per week, which is comprised of up to twenty 45-minute teaching periods, various responsibilities, and some planning time. 

There are about 30 days of Macau and school holidays throughout the year which includes both Winter and Chinese Spring Festival breaks, plus about 60 days of summer holidays. Monthly working Saturdays—which often foster community engagement and extension activities—allow us to lengthen our holidays while still meeting contact day requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual base salary range, including housing allowance, starts at approximately US$44,000, after tax. This does not include the annual travel allowance, new year’s bonus, pension contributions, and yearly re-enlistment bonus that is equivalent to one month’s salary. Furthermore, the government of Macau generously provides a teacher’s subsidy of at least US$580 per month. Taken together, the after-tax total compensation that teachers receive begins at US$57,500. 

Benefits include local healthcare coverage, reduced tuition for up to two dependents to enroll in the school, assistance in finding an apartment including a one-week hotel stay, and an interest-free salary advance to assist with upfront housing costs if needed.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in education OR any bachelor’s degree plus post-graduate certification in Secondary/Primary/Early Childhood Education
  • Experienced in teaching and working with teachers
  • Fluency in English, which is the medium of instruction
