Job overview

If you have a passion for your subject and want to share it with others, then join our successful and well established College as an evening & weekend IT & Social Media tutor

We are interested in hearing from tutors who can inspire our adult learners in an informative and engaging way. Our evening and weekend workshops are aimed principally at acquiring or developing a range of skills in IT and Social Media. We are looking for innovative ideas that will help make a difference from other providers and will look to the expertise of our new tutors to help develop and market a suitable programme that is viable and will meet the needs of our learners.

The successful applicants will join a team of sessional tutors who each contribute to the planning of the workshops and the sharing of resources/ideas. All staff are committed to the success of learners and are receptive to new ideas and approaches. In return, learners are very appreciative of the high level of support they receive.

We are seeking to expand the range of educational and recreational services and facilities we provide for the wider community and so there may be opportunities for additional work as this new Community Hub project expands.

Experience of tutoring is desirable but not essential, provided you have strong expertise in your subject area and a commitment to providing excellent and interesting workshops.

The hours and length of the contract will be dependent on the final agreed programme of workshops. The timing of evening and weekend workshops are negotiable.

Closing Date: Midnight, Monday 10th December 2018

Please ensure you use the Supporting Information Section of the Application Form to explain how your skills, experience and attributes make you suitable for the post. Please do not include a C.V.

Interviews are provisionally arranged for Tuesday 18th December 2018

If you have not heard within one month of the closing date, then please assume that you have not been successful on this occasion. For any queries, please contact Alexene Nellist, HR & Recruitment Officer, on 01723 380748

College Overview

Scarborough Sixth Form College is an open-access College, which provides general education primarily for 16-19 year olds in the area. The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education.  The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts.  Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall.  The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider.

The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
