Job overview

The Key Stage 2 Class Teacher plays a key role in a child’s development and will be responsible for the provision of a full and broad curriculum to the children in their class and to support this with stimulating visits and activities. The Key Stage 2 Teacher will encourage each child to reach their academic potential through enthusiastic and personalised teaching, tailored stretch and challenge, rigorous record keeping and feedback. The syllabus covered should be closely related to, but not restricted by, the guidelines provided. To assess and record regularly and efficiently in order to provide productive feedback both to the children in your class and to the parents, with whom a close and informed relationship can be maintained.

Key Stage 2 Teacher - Key Responsibilities

●       Plan, prepare, and implement the agreed school curriculum to cater for the needs of all children within the assigned class and any other class taught.

●       Areas of the curriculum to be delivered: English, Humanities, PSHE, Art, Digital Literacy, Games, ‘Where Confidence Grows’ and supporting Forest School.

●       Provide a warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere that is conducive to the social and emotional needs of the children within the class.

●       Deliver lessons according to the agreed policy and syllabus

●       Observe and evaluate the progress of each child and record this progress as defined by the school.

●       Provide pastoral support for the class in the role of tutor, ensuring each child is given the opportunity to reach their potential, and be alert to any signs of emotional distress.

●       Efficiently mark and comment upon the child’s work as defined in the school policy.

●       Assess and evaluate a child’s progress using the school’s agreed monitoring and assessment procedures.

●       Create an engaging, stimulating and relevant learning environment through displays and classroom organisation.

●       Set clear expectations for learners with regards to learning objectives and next steps for future progress.

●       Maintain discipline in accordance with school policies at all times and to encourage positive practise in relation to general behaviour and approach to school life.

●       Set homework, according to the homework policy, and to mark it with comments that will be helpful to both the parent and child

●       Maintain cordial and informative relationships with parents.

●       Provide support for the children in a broad range of situations both on and off-site

●       Work as part of a team with the teachers and assistants within the assigned year group and the rest of the school staff.

●       Liaise with other teachers in the school to ensure continuity between departments and year groups. 


Skills, Qualifications and Experience

●       A fully qualified teacher. Primary training is desirable.

●       Ability to teach a range of subjects, with a strong background in literacy.

●       An excellent classroom practitioner who values children.

●       High, though realistic expectations of the children.

●       A thorough up-to-date knowledge of the teaching year group curriculum.

●       Committed to making a difference to all children of all abilities and talents, using a variety of teaching styles to aid learning.

●       A committed, dynamic and pro-active teacher and a cheerful, friendly and cooperative member of the staff.

●       Supportive and positive in their interactions with team members and pupils.

Claremont School has been in existence for close to 100 years. For most that time it was solely a Preparatory School but in 2011 the Senior School was founded on its current site in Bodiam. While rooted in the local community, and with an essentially ‘day school’ character, the development of the Senior School has also seen the addition of boarding in 2016 and an increasingly international dimension being at the heart of our identity.

This was further confirmed when the International School’s Partnership (ISP) took over the School in 2018. The school is now firmly established as a ‘local school with a global outlook’.
