Job overview

Do you want to be part of an ambitious, dynamic and energetic primary team? Would you relish the chance to build a primary school from scratch?  Do you believe that every child can exceed age-related expectations? Are you driven by a desire to transform the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds? We have a vacancy for a class teacher (in Year 1, in the first instance).

Our school opened in September 2015 with our first Reception cohort and we are growing each year until we reach full capacity. We are currently 1FE and will move to 2FE, after we move into our brand new, state of the art, school building. We are a small, kind and caring staff team. We are always supportive of one another and want to see every adult and child in our school reach their potential. As we are growing each year, there are numerous opportunities for professional development.

We can offer you:

• Plenty of opportunities for professional development, within our school and our Trust. We offer NPQML and NPQSL, as well as opportunities for coaching and mentoring in school and within our network of schools

• The prospect to develop as a subject and/or phase/year leader

• Working groups with other EYFS/KS1 teams in our London cluster of schools

• RWI phonics training, if you haven’t already had it

• An experienced, friendly and supportive SLT, with a Headteacher who led her previous school to Outstanding

• At least 6 additional PPA days a year

• An opportunity to work in a charitable organisation that is focused on improving the lives of disadvantaged children; the core value of the Trust is “the best in everyone”

The right candidate will have the chance to:

• Make a difference to our children’s lives

• Plan and teach exciting sequences of lessons

• Contribute to the lovely atmosphere in our school

• Enjoy our school commitment to taking our children on an educational visit at least six times a year

• Develop their subject knowledge, teaching and leadership skills

* The bonus will be paid after the one year qualifying period following the candidate’s joining date, provided the candidate is still employed by United Learning and not under notice of termination of employment (whether given or received) on the due payment date. This payment will be subject to both income tax and NI deductions.

If you want to work in an environment where you will really make a difference, WPA is for you. Why not come for a visit and meet our team and our children? You can book a visit by emailing our Administrative Assistant, Leanne Dunleavy, at leanne.dunleavy@walthamstowprimary.org.uk

Closing date: 21 March 2018 at 12.00

Interviews: 26 March 2018 (interviews could be for the whole day)

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants. CVs will not be considered.

The primary expertise, vision and ambition of the Headteacher and staff team is fundamental in meeting the aspirations of families, United Learning and the local community.

Vision and ethos

All United Learning schools are linked by the shared aim of bringing out the best in everyone - pupils, parents, staff and the wider community. The successful candidate will also be able to develop a unique, school and community-specific ethos for Walthamstow Primary Academy to sit alongside United Learning's core values.

Location and building

Walthamstow Primary Academy is in the heart of Waltham Forest and situated adjacent to United Learning's Walthamstow Academy; a popular and oversubscribed secondary school.

The primary academy will benefit from a brand new school building, which is planned for completion during the next academic year. The building will be bright, welcoming and well-equipped to support the school's educational provision. The successful candidate will feed into the process of choosing resources that best suit the plans for the academy.

Curriculum

Walthamstow Primary Academy aims to make learning enjoyable, challenging and engaging for all pupils - whatever their abilities and interests. There is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to design and shape the academy's curriculum, which will equip pupils with the necessary literacy, numeracy and ICT skills to succeed across all subjects.

Partnership with families and the local community

Partnerships with families is vital to pupils' success and parents are regularly and actively engaged in their children's education. The academy also takes seriously its wider responsibilities, embedding community links for the benefit of both pupils and local people.

Admissions

Walthamstow Primary Academy currently has one Reception class and one Year 1 class, with a new intake of 30 pupils due in September 2017. Once moved into the new building, we will become 2FE and will grow to a capacity of 420 4-11 year olds. As an all-inclusive school, the academy's places are open to children of all backgrounds and abilities. The admissions arrangements are in line with those of the London Borough of Waltham Forest, and children with Education, Health and Care plans that name the academy are admitted first.

Governance

Walthamstow Primary Academy is accountable to a Local Governing Body (LGB). The LGB monitors academic achievement, well-being of pupils, financial management and input on future plans for the school to deliver excellent opportunities for the children and young people of Walthamstow.
