Culford School  is set in 480 acres of magnificent landscaped parkland. It boasts modern and purpose-built teaching facilities as well as top quality sports, social and recreational amenities.

The School is seeking to appoint a forward-thinking, dynamic and innovative individual with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to the role of  Music Teacher in the Prep School. This is an exciting and busy position and our ideal candidate will be able to teach music from year 3 to year 8.  


The Role

Candidates must be flexible and resilient with a clear passion for supporting every child in reaching their potential. We are looking for a strong team player who is keen to work as part of the Culford team. Our new teacher will lead extra-curricular musical activities and play a part in raising the profile of the department and encouraging creativity.  The role is part-time (0.4-0.6 FTE).

The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of life in a busy Prep School and be keen to work as part of an enthusiastic and committed team. 

  • Contributing to suitable schemes of work and selecting appropriate learning materials for pupils, taking into consideration the provision for more able and less able pupils in liaison with the Head of Learning Development.
  • Planning lessons which have clear learning outcomes, enable swift progress, foster application and good behaviour, provide for different needs and make use of an appropriate range of methods and resources. 
  • Maintaining detailed records of work and marking work regularly.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effective delivery of teaching. 
  • Undertaking all duties as laid down in the job description of a class teacher. 
  • Act as an ambassador and professional advocate for the School, with strong pastoral credibility and the capacity to build relationships. 


Qualifications and Experience

A good degree and teaching qualifications with strong evidence of professional development. 

A high degree of competency and experience of teaching pupils in Key Stage 2 and/or Key Stage 3.

About Culford School

Established in 1881, Culford School is a co-educational, all-through, independent school in the town of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Offering places to around 700 pupils aged 1-18, the selective school sits on a large plot of rural land and boasts a mix of 18th-century buildings and modern teaching facilities.

Although the majority of Culford’s children are day pupils, the school offers boarding facilities for prep and senior pupils.
