Job overview

MPR/UPR

Let’s be honest, in June 2017 we lost our ‘good’ grading and our school was graded ‘requires improvement’ by Ofsted.  We know where we stand and have high aspirations and a rigorous plan to turn the school around.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher who is committed to the development of our children and our school.  You will be driven, creative and energetic in your teaching and have the confidence to 'have a go' at anything new to improve the learning in your class.

Through tailored professional learning opportunities we will look to develop you throughout your time with us and although this is currently a fixed term contract there may be wider opportunities in the future.

In return we want you to give us your best and our non-negotiables are outstanding attainment and progress for every child, coupled with kindness and warm-heartedness.

Ashingdon Primary Academy is part of Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) network of over 60 primary, secondary and special academies.  Our school has approximately 200 children from the villages of Ashingdon and South Fambridge as well as from parts of Canewdon, Hockley, Rochford and Hullbridge.  We are lucky enough to be set on a large, attractive site in open, green-belt countryside.

As the sponsor, AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners – to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them.  In each of the AET academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes.  You will also be offered membership of a private health cash plan, teachers’ pension scheme and childcare vouchers

This position is required to commence in January 2019 and is fixed term for one year.  Interviews will take place as soon as possible after the closing date.

Closing date: Friday 19 October 2018

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response.  All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

In line with our safeguarding practices we are unable to accept CV’s. For further information on this position and to make an application please click the apply now button.

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  A Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate will be required for all posts. This post will be subject to enhanced checks as part of our Prevent Duty.

Welcome to Ashingdon Primary Academy and thank you for your interest in our school. Ashingdon village is a small rural community, easily reached from Rochford, Southend, Hockley and Rayleigh.

We have approximately 210 children on roll and provide places for pupils from Reception to Year 6. Pupils join us mainly from the villages of Ashingdon and South Fambridge as well as from parts of Canewdon, Hockley, Rochford and Hullbridge.

We are lucky to be set on a large, attractive site in open, green-belt countryside. The accommodation is made up of 7 well-equipped classrooms, each with their own interactive whiteboard. We also have a library, a large hall and a learning support area for working with small groups of children.

Outside, the academy has a spacious playground, and a large playing field, as well as a very popular Jungle Gym and Trim Trail. On our field we have a large pagoda, where older children are able to eat their packed lunches when the weather is fine. There is a separate Early Years garden, where the Reception children play for their first year at the academy. We also have our very own heated swimming pool.

Curriculum

We aim to develop each and every pupil to their full potential. To do this, we teach a broad and balanced curriculum and use a range of teaching and learning styles in order to make the children's day as interesting, stimulating and challenging as possible.

Our children are taught in mixed-ability classes for the majority of their subjects. At other times, throughout the whole Academy, the children may be taught some specialist subjects by a teacher other than their own (e.g. Music or French).

The basic requirements for our curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 are laid down by the National Curriculum and consists of:

Core Subjects

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • ICT
  • RE

Foundation Subjects

  • Geography
  • History
  • Design Technology.
  • Art
  • PE
  • PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education)
  • Citizenship

This year we have included French in our KS2 curriculum.

More detailed information for each of these subjects is available on separate pamphlets. We also aim to keep parents updated on any new initiatives which we undertake and to actively involve you in your children's learning in as many ways as possible. For example, in the past we have run workshops to inform parents of how we teach reading in the Foundation Stage, Maths in the whole Academy, and how we assess your child's progress.

The Foundation Stage Curriculum differs slightly and an Early Years Curriculum is taught in the Reception Class. We strive to create a secure and stimulating environment where learning can take place through short periods of structured play and interactive teaching, There are six areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social, and Emotional development.
  • Communication, Language, and Literacy Development
  • Mathematical Development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development
