Responsibilities

Kowloon Junior School is seeking to appoint a Lead Learner (Class Based). This position will be a full-time two years renewable contract with a teaching and learning responsibility allowance (TLR3) starting August 2018.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Kowloon Junior School (KJS), Hong Kong for an enthusiastic, experienced and exemplar classroom teacher to join us as one of our Lead Learners. In addition to your own class teaching obligations, you will also have responsibility for leading pedagogy across the school.

KJS is a well-established and highly reputed 5 form entry primary school catering for 900 students from Year 1 to Year 6 and is part of the English Schools Foundation (ESF) in Hong Kong. KJS is a CIS Accredited and IB World School utilising the Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum framework. Teaching and learning at KJS is underpinned by an inquiry approach.

A Lead Learner’s main role is to model, encourage and advocate quality learning and teaching to ensure the best possible outcomes for the students. The Lead Learner is a middle leadership post attracting an additional teaching and learning responsibility (TLR) allowance.

Lead Learners at KJS are an integral part of the school’s leadership team. You will work closely with senior leaders to set strategic direction and help us realise our vision of “Success for Every Child”.

Essential Criteria
• Qualified teacher status
• Exemplary classroom practitioner
• Experience of working within an inquiry based setting
• Evidence of leadership and experience of building successful teams
• Sound knowledge of effective assessment practices
• Ability to mentor / coach staff
• Minimum 3 years teaching experience
• Evidence of ongoing professional development
• Committed to supporting children’s individual needs

Desirable Criteria
• Experience in similar role
• Experience of more than one curriculum model
• International and home teaching experience

You will be an enthusiastic, talented and experienced teacher with the required knowledge, skills and understanding to work closely with an experienced team of educators, dedicated to catering for the needs of all children in their care. In addition to being an exemplar practitioner, you will also know how to work effectively as part of a team, be extremely well organised; and possess excellent spoken and written English skills. Your warm personality coupled with strong interpersonal skills will enable you to communicate effectively with all members of the school community.

The successful candidate will be employed on a two years renewable contract with a teaching and learning responsibility allowance (TLR3).
