Lead Practitioner-English

Accrington Academy is seeking to appoint a Lead Practitioner in English. This new role is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional and outstanding teacher who is passionately committed to developing the quality of teaching and learning in English across the curriculum at KS3-KS5.

Accrington Academy is a popular, successful and oversubscribed school. Due to the popularity of this subject at all Key Stages and the continued outstanding post 16 results we are now looking to grow the department and welcome applications for this exciting opportunity.

The successful candidate must be able to drive continued improvements and set high expectations for students at all Key Stages.  You will have the ability to inspire staff and students alike and effectively help lead this core faculty. The Senior Leadership Team works closely and collaboratively with all Faculties to ensure that teaching and learning is consistently innovative and inspiring to all students.  The candidate will have a proven track record of excellence within an English faculty classroom.

Accrington Academy offers a stimulating, diverse and creative English curriculum and is committed to ensuring that the needs of all our students are met. Alongside students developing skills in the basics of functional English, students also have the opportunity to combine academic rigor with their love and enjoyment of the subject.

Accrington Academy is part of United Learning, a successful national group of independent schools and academies which share a mission to bring out ‘the best in everyone’ and improve the life chances of the children and young people in their care.  Our school has a strong local reputation and has been oversubscribed for several years. We are a successful school, with expanding 11-18 provision, and the majority of students spend their entire journey with us.

As a school we encourage our staff to work creatively; we believe our success is from a willingness to take risks and look at things from a very innovative angle.  We are therefore seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and influential Teacher of English to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5

As part of the United Learning chain of Academies, you will have access to strong and tailored leadership development and unrivalled career development opportunities and support to ensure you achieve your ambitions.

This is the perfect opportunity to work in an innovative and creative department and school. If you would like to see more, then please contact us and we would be delighted to welcome you for a visit.

We are a popular, vibrant and successful 11-18, non-selective school. Our motto as part of the UL family of academies is “The Best in Everyone”.

In March 2015 OFSTED identified that we were a ‘good’ school. The cornerstone of our success is that students enjoy school.  “Students’ attitudes to learning are positive. Students want to do well at the academy”.  – OFSTED MARCH 2015

We have developed a culture of “hard work” and “dedication” from our students and staff alike, where high expectations and a desire for success are standard and everyone is proud to belong to Accrington Academy.

We believe that everyone at the academy can be outstanding and we seek to draw out the full potential in everyone. We do this by instilling the following values in all our students:

  • Ambition
  • Determination to succeed
  • Respect for others, ourselves and the environment we live and work in
  • Enthusiasm
  • Confidence
  • Creativity
