Job overview

Since becoming an academy in September 2009, Kettering Buccleuch Academy has seen many exciting changes. We are an all-through academy catering for students aged 4-18. We moved into our new, purpose-built building in January 2013. Under recent new leadership, the academy continues to go from strength to strength, with happy and motivated staff, a supportive culture and plenty of opportunities for personal growth with our excellent staff CPD offer. We offer a range of benefits including United Rewards, covering lifestyle and retail benefits including childcare vouchers, a car lease scheme, cycle to work etc., subsidised meals and an on-site gym which is free for all staff to use.

The role

This role is responsible for improving the consistency of teaching and learning within science.  You’ll create an ambitious, innovative and motivating classroom for the students you teach by bringing in new ideas and strategies to drive forward the progress of your classes.  You’ll then develop and implement teaching and learning strategies throughout the science department which raise student standards.  You will work closely with the head of department and the assistant heads of department to identify key areas requiring development.  You will contribute to the department vision and will deliver CPD to the department to move towards this goal.  You will support trainee and NQT members of staff to develop their teaching practise as well as helping more experienced colleagues implement new ideas to support the progress of their students.  You’ll inspire and challenge your students so that they develop into highly effective, independent learners and achieve their individual potential.  You will share your own best practise and practise from the department with the whole academy.

We are driven by a forward-thinking philosophy and a vibrant, positive culture.  In a friendly and welcoming school, with supportive colleagues, you’ll be able to make a real impact on our academy and on the lives of our students.

About You

You’ll have Qualified Teacher Status and a proven track record of success within a secondary school setting.  You may aspire to a head of department role.  You’re an inspirational practitioner, knowledgeable regarding the curriculum and an exemplary pedagogy practitioner.  Proactive, flexible and enthusiastic, you bring innovation and commitment to improving the teaching of science across both KS3 and KS4.  You want the best from your students and are keen to support your colleagues in achieving this vision.

United Learning

Kettering Buccleuch Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

We welcome visits to our school so that you can experience the unique ethos of Kettering Buccleuch Academy for yourself. If you would like to visit the academy, please contact Miss Millsop, PA to the Principal, on 01536 515644 or via email to WendyMillsop@kba.uk
