DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Raising the Quality of Teaching and Learning  

  • Carry out teaching responsibilities in line with the professional duties of a teacher   
  • Model consistently high-quality teaching and be able to demonstrate excellent practice to others   
  • Produce high-quality teaching materials that support excellent practice   
  • Prepare and deliver training courses across the school to improve teachers’ practice   
  • Support with teachers’ professional development and appraisal through carrying out lesson observations, providing feedback and implementing strategies to improve practice  
  • Provide mentoring/coaching to individual teachers’ in need of 1-to-1 support to improve their practice   
  • Use data to identify individuals or groups that need further teaching support and develop and implement strategies to raise the quality of teaching  
  • Use data to identify individuals or groups of pupils that need targeted support, and develop and implement strategies to raise achievement   
  • Set challenging and ambitious targets for pupils on interventions and update parents on progress   
  • Measure and assess the impact of interventions to raise achievement for pupils and the quality of teaching   
  • Promote strategies which support differentiation, inclusion and positive behaviour 

Monitoring and Evaluation  

  • Co-ordinate and carry out monitoring and evaluation activities to improve teaching and learning, including work scrutinies, lesson observations, learning walks etc.  
  • Use systems to analyse data from monitoring and evaluation, and use insights to inform strategies and plans for teacher development   
  • Support with self-evaluation and school improvement planning across the Maths Faculty and whole school  

Professional Development  

  • Lead on researching best practice and keeping up-to-date with the latest developments   
  • Share knowledge with staff and offer support to implement the research into their own practice    
  • Inform staff about the latest innovations in intervention strategies  
  • Lead on identifying high quality CPD programmes to improve quality of teaching and learning   
  • Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures  
  • Take part in further training and development in order to improve own practice  
  • Where appropriate, take part in the appraisal and professional development of others 

Management of Staff and Resources  

  • Direct and supervise support staff assigned to them, and where appropriate, other teachers  
  • To work actively in monitoring the performance of both professional and support staff in line with the School’s performance management policies, strategies and practices  
  • To work, through the School’s line management system, with appropriate staff in ensuring a safe working and learning environment through application of appropriate risk assessment and adherence to current Health & Safety regulations.   
  • To ensure all staff within the faculty consistently uphold the national teachers’ standards. 

Working with the community  

  • To form a fulfilling and trusting partnership with parents and carers that will actively and positively contribute to the successful education of their child.  
  • To liaise with local primary schools in ensuring continuity of curriculum upon transfer as well as the spreading of good practice and expertise. 

Other Duties  

  • The post holder will be subject to performance objectives agreed annually  
  • The post holder is expected to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Headteacher  
  • To take on any whole school initiative or responsibility that the Headteacher may direct. 

Safeguarding 

  • The Lead Practitioner T&L Coach (Maths) will have: 
  • The ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people 
  • Appreciation of the significance of safeguarding and ability to interpret this accurately for all individual children and young people whatever their life circumstances 
  • A good understanding of the safeguarding agenda and an ability to contribute towards a safe environment 
  • To have the ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

  • The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice and information in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. 

Wellbeing 

  • Ensure all pupils have equal access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources, where necessary.  
  • Liaise with pastoral staff members to ensure the wellbeing of pupils and their full participation in school life.  
  • Raise any concerns regarding pupils’ behaviour with the relevant Raising Standards Lead. 
  • Implement any specific arrangements for individual pupils, ensuring that relevant staff members are aware of the measures in place.  
  • Provide individual pastoral support to pupils, where necessary. 
  • Continuously motivate and challenge pupils, whilst promoting and reinforcing self-esteem.

Variation Clause 

  • This job description will be reviewed and updated periodically in order to ensure that it relates to the job performed or to incorporate any proposed changes.  This procedure will be conducted by the Headteacher or line manager in consultation with the post-holder.  In these circumstances it will be the aim to reach agreement on reasonable changes but if agreement is not possible management reserves the right to make changes to the job description following consultation.

 Abbey College, Ramsey is located in a small market town, almost half way between Huntingdon and Peterborough and within easy reach of Cambridge and London. The College is set within extensive, historic and beautiful grounds close to the Parish Church of St Thomas A Becket.    The College is a large 11-18 school with a catchment which extends over a wide rural area. 

There are approximately 1090 students on role, including a sixth form of 120. We currently have around 70 members of teaching staff with an additional support team of over 75 members of staff.   

We have high aspirations as a College as our 2016 results showed. Our A level and BTEC results placed us the sixth best in Cambridgeshire, outdoing many private schools, and our GCSE results were our highest ever, with a progress 8 figure of 0.21. We are also oversubscribed for the second year in a row this year by over 40% and our attendance is 2% higher than the national averages.
