Lead Teacher of Visual Impairment Resource Unit

Stationers' Crown Woods Academy has a fantastic opportunity to appoint a Lead Teacher of the Visual Impairment Resource Unit who will lead the designated specialist provision and support mainstream teachers to differentiate work to meet the needs of VI learners. The faculty of SEND and Inclusion supports students by helping them to develop key skills required to access mainstream education. The faculty works collaboratively across the academy to ensure that all pupils are able to access and enjoy all aspects of academy life. This role suits a qualified teacher who is experienced in working with students with SEND in either mainstream or specialist provisions.  We are looking for an enthusiastic practitioner who is qualified to work with VI students, or willing to undertake a fully funded Masters level course. This role is suitable for those already trained within a VI capacity, or a strong secondary teacher willing to train as we can support our successful candidate with this.  Our appointed candidate will continually receive support from the central council VI service. 

You will adopt a flexible approach and be a highly motivated and resilient practitioner.  You must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of legislation and guidance relating to SEND, and be able to effectively communicate information to staff.  Our successful candidate must have a truly positive approach to inclusion and have a clear understanding of the strategies used to develop inclusive practice in schools and settings for pupils with VI.

Working at Stationers' Crown Woods Academy:  Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy joined Leigh Academies Trust in 2014.  The campus incorporates nine buildings which include four home schools each serving 450 pupils and students, a Design, Technology and Creative and Performing Arts School, a Sport and Community Education Centre and an Inclusions Hub.  Working with the Stationers’ Company and Ravensbourne will enable the new Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy to enhance our provision and develop a Digital Curriculum fit for the future.

Working with Leigh Academies Trust:  As of September 2019, our Trust is comprised of 25 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 13 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff.  We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open between September 2020-2021.  The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.
